Thinking about buying a County

It wasn't but what about aftermarket cabs fitted? They are typical of the period when the tractor was new and help to keep the original appearance. Well, that's just my thought! To many cabs get scrapped these days.

True Niels, but that cab doesn't even look good??? Looks like a greenhouse and will probably act like one when the sun comes out  ;D

I have been able to reduce the price on the 1124 by some. Can someone point out the County parts that are most likely in need of repair or that need lots of inspection before buying.Thanks.

Front pivot bush worth doing, fairly simple job, big bush about £50, smaller £35. Crownwheel and pinion can wear but if in good condition can be swapped side to side, look for play in top and bottom swivel bearings aswell. Driveshaft universal joints get play and are about £45 and front hub seals can leak, but fairly simple to replace. Handbrake discs again are simple to replace and not particularly dear. The rear brakes are a bigger and more expensive job. Check engine starts well and doesn't smoke or throw too much oil out the exhaust. That one has got an alternator fitted too so if you want to put it back to original a dynamo is readily available as I expect the tacho/engine rpm won't work as it is cable driven! Otherwise they are pretty bombproof. ;)

Yeah If I decide to buy it, the cab will defenitly end up in the junk!  As I would want to repaint it , will it be difficult to find replacement decals? I have never owned a County but have always been captivated by them, so I am a greenhorn at the whole thingy.

Decals are easy, genuine £160 or very good copies £80, cheap to post! And yes Marky, that is the case :-)

I reckon it would spoil this tractor completely if the cab was removed! Might as well not bother with the thing at all. At the moment it's a really nice and interesting piece of County export history with that cab, which fits rather nicely, and even nicer assuming it's a Canadian-built unit? Plus it can always be used with the doors and back window taken off to get a blow through. Otherwise, with it removed, it's just another 1124...

You and Niels must be spending too much time together Chris, you're even sharing opinions now ;D ;D

Personal opinion is that if the cab is solid and it good condition it would be a shame to lose it to the scrap yard, especially if it was fitted to the tractor from the outset however if its got any rot in it or it was fitted at a later date I'd get shot of it and return the tractor to its original condition.

Me and you Chris are going to fall out

The bottom left door is missing, the front glass is smashed, no back window, wiper missing, you will lose your hearing when the tractor is running, if you get a strong wind it will blow over, if you try and park it in your shed it won't go in because too tall,  need I go on????

Not a very pleasant place to be unless it is actually raining?

as much as we are used to them open or with certain cabs ,it is a shame to see that cab go, ugly as it is, mainly as it is part of that tractors history, maybe if the missing door parts ect where there, and with new glass it would be ok?? maybe its just to far gone , i bet theres not many if any others left with that cab on it still
