What a busy few weeks lads have been busy finishing off our own silaging with a nice heap now in the shed that will keep the cows well fed over winter. Due to a busy time my cousin Colin has hired a t7.210 newholland and has agreed to help me out for the harvest period as things are going to be very busy. Ive had an interesting week as I've been over driving the black 6210r and bale chaser at Oakleys a quick lesson on using the machine then was left on my own I must say I miss my fendt 724 but as I need all my tractors for silaging, wholecrop and bale hauling I am left to the hired in jd6210r but its ok to drive I got a radio so that's good. A wet few days seen Colin and Jon out with the slurry tankers spreading on some silage grounds for some customers. Kerry and zac have serviced up the bale trailers ready for the season. Yesterday I popped to blandford to pick up my vaderstad carrier that a friend borrowed at the start of the year also gave me a chance to take the challenger out for a drive. With a talk to my customers its been suggested that they now all prefer square bales straw so I will be selling our class and john Deere round baler and round bale wrapper and purchasing a second square baler also another recent change will see the caterpillar challenger go up for sale as its not used enough to warrant to keep it but we will replace it for a wheeled tractor which is far more usefull to both sides of the business. These machinery changes will certainly be better for the business id hate to keep machines sat In my sheds that don't get used enough and with the price of new machines every penny helps. Hope all your harvest season goes well I hope no one gets any major problems. As its quiet we are all off to the pub for quick pint then off home for an afternoon off catch up on some sleep and time with our partners lets hope for a dry week as we got alot of work coming in. Boys will certainly be busy for few months.

Had a quiet week what with the rain damping work Colin has been busy slurry tanking for me as Jon has been on holiday for the week. Had two phone calls from Julian @ orchard contracting urgently needing all 3 of my silage trailers with tractors and drivers so me zac and shane will be heading up to Montgomerys to help harvest 400 acres of grass the second phone call from Julian was asking me to get Kerry and his 939 and our krone square baler ready to help him with baling straw so its been manic day getting the kit ready to go. Looks like we are in for a busy time ahead but all my team are excited and raring to go as always so I'm glad to have a good team on board.

Our balers been out helping Julian baling straw also 3 of us have helped him hauling silage as well. A recent call from Alex this past few days asking for 3 tractors and drivers and both my rootcrop trailers to help him with hauling potatoes everyday this week as he has 3 lorry loads booked to go out so that will keep us busy. Also Alex informs me that he will be cutting my wheat in hopefully 3 days time so with my dad covering staff on holiday he is off to cut hedges back in gateways and cut verges back ready for the arrival of combines. Colin is finishing last of slurry then he is going to help with hauling straw for me so he's got his work cut out with plenty of road work ahead and long hours.all staff are buzzing with excitement now that harvest is upon us they all love the long hours and the amount of work involved I hope we don't get too many problems but we are well prepared and ready to deal with anything that may happen. Today I had a potential buyer for my two round balers and wrapper so he has gone away to put a deal together so fingers crossed they will be sold this week. Ive spotted new square baler I like so fingers crossed I may be able to buy it.

With a dismal week ive managed to catch up on jobs around the yard and also the team have managed to catch up on maintenance and workshop jobs. A good friend from blandford has been on the phone his 8530 john Deere has broke down and as he has some cultivating that he needs doing he has hired my caterpillar challenger for a short period keep his work going meanwhile a customer of manor contracting rang up saying he is reluctantly selling his jd7810 due to getting bigger and newer tractor so having had a look at it and coming to a nice deal I went and brought it it wont do loads of hours but it will be used for hauling silage or hauling straw bales around just mainly road work or light duties. Both round balers and the bale wrapper sold nicely which was a nice bonus this week. We had our aw rootcrop trailer in the workshop having a new hitch ring welded on also in the workshop this week for a service was our jd6210r hopefully next in for service is both our jcb telehandler and loading shovel. Hedge cutting is done on our farm ready for Alex to come in with the combines just having few verges tidied up and few customers wanted few gateways cut back so theres been plenty going on still. Just need this blasted rain to go away so the harvesting can continue.

Been a quiet week alot of rain has fallen making ground conditions poor me and zac have been out fencing for couple customers and cutting over hanging tree limbs off. Workshops been busy couple lads have helped service both jcbs and even had time to service the new arrival. Our workshop van is due for upgrade so ive been and done a deal on a newer transit van so hopefully it will arrive next week. Waiting for the call from Alex when it dries up to tell us when he is coming in with combines we are now ready for his arrival. Hopefully the weather will dry up and harvesting can continue. Quiet weekend only few jobs to do first off gotta move the cows back to the paddock by the yard as there is plenty of grass for them. Also yard needs a tidy up so john and Kerry are going to have a good tidy up and put machinery away and clean out the fodder beet clamp and finish cleaning out beef shed etc. More rain due tomorrow so everyone is having a day off to catch up on family life.

With all the contracting we do we haven't really the time for doing our own it just fits in nicely as Alex passes the farm so its just easier to have him cut our wheat and we can do the rest and we don't really do enough to warrant having our own combine however things can always change down the line you never know what's round the next corner.

all been busy this week we've been out doing last cut of silage for couple customers now getting maize kit on forager ready for maize. Potatoes are ready to harvest so all the kit is ready to go yesterday saw Kerry and zac hauling some topsoil back to one of our fields as a customer is putting in a new shed so I got few fields that need topping up in places so we will store it in a heap till the ground dries up then we can start building up a few low spots before ploughing fields up. Jon boy is on hedge trimming soon we will put our second trimmer on just to help cut as much as possible before miaze harvest. All our straw is safely stacked in a neighbours shed as he doesn't use it so we needed extra space so renting his straw shed to store our straw and also all our customers straw is also delivered safely. The boys have all worked very hard and very fast over the harvest season all deserve a medal for there team work and better still no major problems occurred just few punctures so I'm very pleased with their efforts. Think they are looking forward to maize as they all enjoy the banter on the cb radios and its not very often they all work together. More rain due this week coming but we still got plenty to do rain or shine

hedge trimming is going well all systems go for the both trimmers for few days. Potato harvesting started well this week so far averaging 20 tonne to the acre if this carries on we might need more boxes but a very good bumper crop so far. Julian from orchard contracting been on the phone needing two tractors and silage trailers for later this week at hill dairy and the maize harvesting will start next week so the team will all be flat out even outside help has been organised to help us out. Lets hope for this good weather for another week or two to help things along.

the gang have started maize harvesting this week ground conditions have been ok so far few wet spots found but no stuck kit yet. Potato harvesting is going well should finish next week if weather stays nice. Have recently been having some problems with our 7499 mf been loosing power and having electrical problems but with a trip to highwoods and a small fortune its back on the road and pulling better then it used to but we may look to upgrade it next year as its reached 3200 hours now but its been a very good tractor to us so will see if I can persuade the driver to part with it for a new one. Fodder beet is looking good soon be time to harvest it.
