Sorry for the latness of my reply. Didn't notice that people had posted this much in it. Yes I made that header out of an old New Holland header that had broken.

We have been getting our regular daily showers again so that has slowed down the close of Rice Harvest 06, but we've managed to finish. Hinton Farms We've been cutting the clearfield rice (dry planted). This rice is making record yields, but record low prices. This field is the last one. We started in the smaller field on the side of the main field. It was still early when we started. The STX arrived shortly after the 9220's cart got full. Since we had started so early, the other tractors weren't quite ready so they arrived one after the other. The cut the small cut on the other side so the truck could pull in. There was no room on the road. When the small field on the side was finished we pulled the truck in that area to have more room for the tractors to move more freely. After we finished the field, we brought the tractors home to park the carts and switch out some tools. The first was the stx. We unhooked the cart and hooked it to the buffalo. We plan to run it over one of our fields we just cut. After we flatten the straw, we are going to reflood and crawfish this field in the winter. We are trying to do some different things this year, after the bad crawfish season last year. We are hoping a thin top crop of rice will come up for feed for the crawfish. We put the green disk on the 9270 after it unhooked the Rayne Grain Cart. We plan to disk under some of the ruts we made during the harvest. We hooked the 9220 to the red disk after we unhooked that cart. Finally we took the stripper off of the combine. We plan to put the draper on to cut soybeans in a few weeks. We are waiting for things to dry off a little more before we put the buffalo and disks in the field. Mike Lafler Farms Mike is also finishing up his dry plant fields that he plans to crawfish this winter. At the end of the day, both were ready to go so they were both unloading in the truck. Thats all for now. Questions/Comments Welcome
  3. On my 4th beer of the evening.......Or was it 5th.............dunno, but I've had a really bad day.
  4. These are some pics my sister took out of her front yard in Branch, LA. Some of them have a glare when the sun came out. Looks like another 9660 with a 30' header. Never seen a cart like that but it was hooked to a 9320. Questions/Comments welcome
  5. Just got finished walking back from school, about a mile up the road. Unfortunatly as I was walking up the street, I noticed a flashing sign that said it was 102 degrees outside!!!!!!!!!! Bought a drink at McDonald's and the ice melted before I could cross the street.

Yes, I took them in my backyard. Been wanting to take road pics, and I thought, what better place then the sidewalk outside.
  7. Great pics. Never knew they had big 4wds over there. Aren't the road rules stricter over there for that sort of thing? Nice pics once again.
  8. We haven't had any daily showers in a while, so we aren't messing with mud too much anymore. We do find soft spots in the fields every now and then. The dryness has encouraged most farmers to put all they got into their rice fields to try and get it out. Hinton Farms We are still busy with the harvest. The stx's air conditioner went out so we brought it back. There was also a chain broken on the cart, so both the tractor and cart were brought back to the shop. After a little fuel, the 9270 with the Rayne Grain cart was going to be sent in to make up for the loss. It can't keep up with the combine as well as the STX with the J&M cart. Before we left though, we discovered a problem with one of the wheels on this cart, so it was out before it got in the field. After everything was fixed and fueled up, we headed out to the field next to the cropduster airstrip. Of course, we had to pull over for the normal trafic up the Whiteville Road. We saw that the Sampsons bought themselves a new 9520, and already got it muddy pulling the cart. Wonder where they were going. :?: Once we got going everything went smooth. OOPS!! Pulled up a little too close to the truck, gotta carefully pull out, make the round and pull up again. Gotta be carefull not to hit that auger on the truck. Had a bit of red rice sticking out in the top cut. We should be starting on our clearfield dry plant rice soon. Mike Lafler Farms Mike has cut two of his fields already. He has started to reflood those fields to get a top crop out of them. The fields from here are all gonna be replowed and prepped for rice next year. A few will be reflooded as well, only this will be for Crawfish lakes. He started on his field that had soys last year. Started up in the bottom cut. Had quite a bit of red rice in this cut. Red rice is a weed that is of no value as a sellable rice. The fields are still pretty wet so the trucks have to park on the road and the tractor has to use the road to unload. This is a low trafic gravel road, so they don't run in to many problems. Well thats all for now. Questions/Comments Welcome.
  9. Actually, with the rain, we are getting back to the the norm. During the summer, we tend to have a shower everyday. Haven't had too much problems, except the other day when the axle broke off of that green cart. That was the same axle I broke on the same cart 4 years ago, and that makes the third time we've broken that axle all together, all in the same field too. We either put skinny duals on the combine, or we put those big mud hogs on them. It seems that this combine does better with the fat singles then the 2388 did with the skinny duals. Yes that is the only combine we've got running.
  10. We've been using the stripper for about 15 years or so. Not exactly sure, as long as I can remember, but the majority of farmers use drapers or regular rotary headers.
  11. That long rod on the back of the 4755 with the blade was being used to help repair that green cart. When I got there the axle had broken off of it, and the stinger on the back of the 4755 was helping hold it up along with the jack. We use the blade to knock down the levees to make crossing easy. Even with such a small cart, the stx still strained a little in all that mud.
  12. Well I went to Ville Platte to get some pics. Out of 131 pics, it was hard to choose what to post. Well these are what made it. Enjoy. Questions/Comments welcome. [/
  13. Mowed my grass, watchin the simpson's now and waiting to go move my mom's friend into her new house.
  14. HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sunny and 99
  15. Looks like this year's hurricane season won't be nearly as bad as last year. We've only had one named storm so far, last year at this time we had 3. But the season didn't pick up until August so we just have to wait and see.
  16. Been home sick with a stomach virus for the last two days. Other than that it would be work 9 hrs a day as ussual. But at least tomatoes don't talk back.
  17. It has been rainy lately. Our rice fields have been draining slowly because of this. Hinton Farms We've been waiting for a break in the rain to go out and test the rice. We decided to get out this morning with the machines since we still had a few hours until the rain would arrive. First thing was to attach all the carts. We sent the 9270 to get the Rayne Grain cart. Since the fields are muddy, we decided to also put this cart in the field, since the trucks won't be able to drive into the back of the field. We also had to fuel up the combine. We are starting out with the stripper header. We don't plan to do any top-crop this year with all the acres we planted. The combine arrives in the field. After the first round we took a test on the moisture tester. The rice tested about a 19. We usually don't continue with a moisture count that high, but we weren't expecting to cut very long with rain on the way. The rain was close so we started to wrap things up for the day. May not come back to cut for a while. Questions/Comments welcome
  18. Great shots there Tim, glad to see you're feeling good enough to get out again.
  19. Surprizingly, a lot of rain. No Hurricanes yet though.
  20. Hush, I've got a clean record. I come in evey once in a while and keep my nose clean. Got a few spelling ones last year though.
  21. Oops never noticed the pic above me, never mind the question then, awesome pictures though.
  22. :o My God!!!!!!! You actually had me wondering if I was looking at a toy farm or not!!!!!! Those are some awesome pics. How did you make the dust effect?
  23. Been workin 40 hrs a week so I have little time, barely have the time to sit on my own stool. ha ha!. Sunday I mowed my grass, but no one told me it would be 110 degrees outside (no joke) and I almost passed out. Today is my first day off that I don't have anything that I have to do, so Im just relaxin at the house.
