  1. thanks chaps hmm toughy the best brand would have to be massey , for no other reason than it's what i was bought up with, so yes i'm biased, but i've driven bad as well masseys as good ,3080 springs to mind driven a good one that was a joy to drive but a friend who had one the same age & spec was nothing but trouble but i think that would cover any manufacturer as for the best tractor ? that would be a throw up between a MF 699, fendt 612, zetor 14145 & the deere 4055 / 6400, case 1694 if i could get one tractor built new again just for me, it would be the 699
  2. hi milo , i used to live in ilminster , & there's a small shop in town, , it looks like a pet store/ garden center , but out the back there's quite a range of siku stuff , he's actually still got a few SP holmer beet harvesters !amongst other things , very few britains & UH stuff , but he seems to be getting bits trickling through. 10 mins from win & 30 from taunton ? castle cary ?, sparkford? keinton mandeville ? bruton ?
  3. not tempted to build a matching fleet from the 800 up then jas ? that would be a collection & a half to see
  4. the idea is kev that any debri would be cought by the oil while the 'clean air' carries on to the engine , untill the paper filters were fitted , David brown tractors were fitted it oil type air cleaners right up to the 90 series in 1980
  5. do they ? not on any of the disc's i've used , .......................tell me more
  6. we call them wurfbegrenzer as well thomas :D the translation is throw limiters apart from the use on powerharrows, they're rarely fitted to any cultivation equipment in the uk , unless of course it's for precision work :)
  7. i remember seiing lots of articles like that stan but the one that sticks in my mind was the far east , where all the 'dead' tractors were just lined up along the roadside for miles & miles, & one of the DB dealers were pulling them in one by one & breaking them for either spare parts or for complete rebuilds
  8. darn your conversions are annoyingly great allis best send you a few 26's to get the same treatment, any ideas as to how to bulk up a 2720 please
  9. where abouts are you mate as tris has some good places , & he's only just in wilts
  10. :D to be honest mate there's loads of tractors i've not driven , but i have been very fortunate in being able to drive the good the bad & the ugly . thats the good thing about the smaller farms i've helped out on , the variety of tractors & kit is huge thus giveing you an experience everywhere you go mind you because of the ammount of people i've worked for i've been called unemployable :D , it not true , when yer self employed you just move onto the next person that wants your services , wether it be a large contractor covering 5-6 hundred acres or a hobby farmer who has 5-6 acres thats all for the tractors unless anymore turn up might just do the trucks next
  11. who told you that ? :D , good ole bus that
  12. welcome to the forum simon, some good clear pics in ther mate , but the blue is hurting my eyes , cant wait for some of the renault pics
  13. haven't seen this topic in a while , looking very professional mark , lovin it
  14. like colm just said , just a white metal box basically jas , you had to climb over the skid unid to get to the drivers seat , it was very noisy & when the snow or frost was down , absolutely freezing not a plesant place to spend the day
  15. yes jas it was a 1 row SP with a MF135 skid , it caught fire though when the local inteligencia decided to set light to the straw bales in the shed it was parked in
  16. it was a jag 40 mate , lovely little machine when the grass was well wilted & reasonably dry, but awfull if the grass was damp or wet,
  17. two different tractors mate , although both 64's steep hills mate , so the front axle was tied to the 590, 1174=bouncy :D :D, awsome machine mate ohhh yes , not a favourite tractor to drive , used to haul sugarbeet with this with a 4t trailer on a 12 mile round route , not the fastest tractor i've driven \
  18. caught a branch, for the windscreen , the trailer caught another trailer in the lanes
