I think people are being slightly unfair here. The real FW could be classed as 'crude' as well and the Ertl 1:32 model was considered very good for its time. Ertl can't put in what Steiger/Ford left out. I will say though that it might have been a better idea to issue the new FW-30 model as a second generation FW, the ones that had different decals with no striping and a different headlight configuration on the front grille

Haven't read it in a while actually, my brother took the two of them (parts 1 & 2) into school because there's some read-a-thon going on and everybody had to bring in three books (the third one was Fever Pitch).
