  1. Same power unit as the Ford TW-20, off the top of my head 153hp i think, Not sure if later 1474s had the same tweaking as the later TW-25 that brought power up to 163hp..
  2. My County arrived on Saturday, I am a life long fan of these iconic big wheelers and i have to say i am delighted with the model, it is stunning with i think a high level of detail, 9 out of 10 to UH for a very good effort and 10 out of 10 again to UH for being the model producer who finally produced a affordable well detailed model of one of these classics, lets hope it dosnt stop here with hopefully a 1884 and even possibly a 1184/1174 in the pipeline!!. 9 out of 10, UH dropped a piont for what has already been mentioned, getting the model off the stand was hell of a job, 4 tiny screws that was so tight i very nearly broke the model trying to remove them, this is not the first UH model i have had this problem with, certainly the firm can find another way of sucuring the product in the box??..
  3. Cant we just say UH models are ok and not bad for the price, if i purchased a 1/32 model for 40 quid i would expect a 1/32 model of the same tractor for 100+ quid will be slightly better!!!, you get what you pay for, looking at my old 80s Britains models i think the likes of UH and Britains have come a long way..
  4. Recived my T8 today, very nice indeed, and for less then 20quid, its a lot of tractor for the price and in my opinion anyway a good level of detail, 10/10 Britains ...
  5. Yes we have to remember we are looking at forthcoming releases from a large scale model/toy producer and not the lastest gems from a precition specialised model maker, i think UH do a pretty good job on getting there models as accurate as possible but they and other firms like SIKU and Britains could never hope to match the detail and quality of specialist low volume producers. I am pleased personally to see pretty good models available at affordable prices, they are not perfect "i for one would like to see some front mudguards on the 8830" but i think they are good enough to please most collectors.
  6. I have already ordered my County didint really care about the price as it was/is/going to be a christmas prsent...
  7. I would have to say when i finally got my hands on a old Britains County 1884 back in the summer, a model i always wanted but could never seem to find one for a reasonable price..
  8. I have been considering buying a NH T8!, has anyone got one yet?, i know the SIKU one is a bit naff is the Britains one any better??, they look good in pictures but are they as good up close??.. \
  9. Same here John the list is endless but a few off the top of my head would be, A Field Mashall series 3, my favourite vintage tractor and that engine sound is just so wonderful on similar lines a John Deere 820/30 a beast of a machine and the ultimate jonney popper!. Any County, Roadless or Muir Hill, i very breifly drove a County 1174 several years ago and recently driven a Porche 911 turbo, i felt more excited in control of the lumbering big wheeler!!!!.. On a more sentimental note i would love to spend a day working with a late 2 door Massey Fegie 550, my father spent many hours working on one and he kept his tractor spotless, on occation i sat on his lap and steered the tractor when i was a nipper, i remember one day we went muck spreading hop waste and i spread the whole load while my dad was talking to his colleage on the headland.. Also again me being sentimental, a Leyland 272 hitched to a old flail type forager and trailer, watching 2 of these combinations when i was a child working every spring in the meadows near my home left a lasting memory, the sound alone was awesome.. Saying that give me the keys of any tractor young or old and i will be more then happy to have a go!!
  10. I can remember David Browns being still fairly popular around my area until about 15 years ago and then they all vanished obviously they bacame life expired though i hope some lucky ones found a good retirement home, it is strange also that it seems the Massey 100 series namely 135s have outlived there more modern 500 series brethrin around these parts, on the farm my father used to work on i remember the farms 4 135s and 175 was replaced by 4 550s and a 590 back in the early 80s, today the farm still has 2 135s albiet seldom used but all the 500s have long gone, even the later 250 and 290 left the farm many years ago. During the 90s the 500s was replaced by 3 362s and a 390T and yep you guessed it they went when the farm went from hop/apple growing to arable about 10 years ago, the 135s have outlived them all!!!..
  11. My veiw of a classic tractor would be from the MF 135, Ford 4000 era "mid sixties" until the Ford 10 JD 50 series "late 80s early 90s", anthing before i class as vintage and anything after i class as modern, so i agree with others on this thread my personnal real classics are the tractors i watched in awe as a child namely David Brown 885/996, Leyland 252/272, Ford 4600/6600 and certainly the 500 series Masseys, these was the most common tractors in my area during my childhood so i have a special fondness for them, i think ones own veiw of a classic depends on the area they live and there age.
  12. Lovely models chaps and fantastic photos, i have great memories working on big Fords during my apprentiship at Harris of Hereford a Ford dealership way back in 1989, a few off the top of my head include spending a week on and off re-building the engine of a almost new 8210 that had put a leg out of bed, that was nasty!, washing down many times a TW-25 demonstrater plus helping to service many 700, 7710, 7910 and 8210 series tractors on there respective farms also the odd TW-10/15 though i can not recall working on a TW-30/35 though i do remember seeing a brand new cab-less TW-35 on the back of a lorry in the yard once who arrived to deliver yet another factory fresh 7810 that was selling like hot cakes at the time!!. I also remember spending a day in a middle of a feild working on a old 9600 that was a bit of beast, it failed halfway through spreading a load of chicken offal/poo the smell was interesting to say the least.. .. Oh those was the days..
  13. I agree Sean, TWs and other large tractors just dont look right in 2wd form and i think most European farmers and contractors had the same opinion and opted for 4wd and i dont think it was solely for better traction on the heavier wetter european soil as well as the use of heavy mounted implements meant the extra front end weight was an advantage, they simply just looked better with bigger front wheels!!
  14. Will the earlier bubble cabbed TW-25 only be available in a 2wd form, ok good for the US market but not many i belive was sold over here??. I would like a model of each of the TWs but i would much rather a european style 4wd version of the original incarnation.
  15. Nice thread about one of my favourite tractor species . I am a huge fan of the TW range and there smaller similar styled cousins, i think the 5700 was the smallest though these was not sold in the UK, the 700 series was launched in 1976, TWs in 1979 and the last of the 30 series was built in 1994 the same basic design lasted for 18 years so the design was obviously a good one. As to my personal favourites i would have to say the later super Q cabbed TW 25/35 are the best looking as they just ooze power and purposefulness, i do like the compactness of the TW 10/15 and the TW 20 though. If i had to pick a real fave i think it would have to be the big TW based Countys the long nosed 1474 and the mighty 1884 are without doubt my favourite tractors ever produced and i have had a love affair with these iconic machines since childhood..
  16. I agree, i think most of us collectors has at least one model on there wish list that has yet to be produced i certainly have a few, it would be impossible to have a model of every single tractor that has been produced during the last 100 or so years. I think both main stream model firms and specialist low volume producers can live together without stepping on one anothers toes for some time to come. I think more people are collecting then ever before judging by the recent and on-going flood of new items coming on the market and the large number of obsolete models being sold on ebay and the likes for at times unbeliveable prices so it seems the hobby is in a boom time and long may it continue. If the market is there and people are willing to spend there well earned cash the model producers be they main stream or specialist will continue to amaze, dazzle and occatioanlly amuse us with there products. So when is the release date for the UH Muir Hill 141, Roadless 118, Leyland 272 sychro and the John Deere 3650??
  17. Yes i can see your point, some collectors may get disheartend with all these new releases, i for one have at least new 5 models on my must get list for next year and we are still in 2011!, no collectors are the same though so what delights one collector will disgust another, i do tend to buy random models with no real theme but i still often find the choise of models available beweildering at times. Saying that i would rather be spoiled for choise as opposed to be suffering from the lack of it..
  18. That County 1474 looks stunning in the photo, not sure about the TWs yet, but what the hell im buying all of them, thank heavens a model producer has finally listened to the people who buy there products, hope this gives UHs competiters the kick up the Bum they need.. I apologise but i cannot afford to spend 100s/200s of pounds on a model even though i would would love to so i have to look at the cheaper less qaulity mass-producers to hopefully produce the models i want, so a affordable Ford TW and certainly a big County is well high on my list..
  19. Thanks chaps,Thats a pity, i am suprised no model firms have made one as i belive they was quite popular machines backs in the 80s. I have seen a few clips of them at work on youtube Nigel, that deep throaty engine note still sounds fantastic and brings back fond memories for me.
  20. I have a few questions i hope some of you may be able to answer, i am looking for a model "1/32" would be nice of a late 70s/early 80s Cat tracked loader, i remember a local contractor had one in my area when i was a child and i would go weak at the knees watching it loading the hop waste into the firms Leyland 4 wheel tipper trucks during the late summer around the hop farms in my area, after a bit of research i think the model was a 941 or a 941b, it had a cab without the lights on top. I am wondering has any model firm made one of these classic machines and if so where can i purchase one from, i have searched on the internet but without success, any help would be fantastic..
  21. Yep space is a issue, my collection has tripled in size during the last 12 months and my collection is not that big!, i am finding myself looking for specific models from the classic Britains era and implements are high on the list but i still mainly collect tractor models, i have recently asked myself do i collect only old vintage and classic Britains models or everything else on the market today , i think a line has to be drawn for the sake of available space and my wallet!! ..
  22. I went a bit mad last weekend!! Britains claas forager "late 80s version" Britains New Holland TR-85 combine Britains claas silage trailer with silage extention Britains Howard Rotaspreader Britains unimog Britians chafer crop sprayer!! I must have had to much to drink!!
  23. Phew what a question, personally i do like the New Holland T7's, as i am a fan of New Holland and John Deere i like yourself would be torn between the 2, i think the only soloution is to get one of each on demo and see for yourself what machine performs the best, i am sure your local NH and JD dealerships would be falling over themselves to help.
  24. Thanks, I will have a look at the scratchbuild section . Neils, I still have the front wheels but the knuckle joints that the wheels apparantly screw onto are broken i have the red wheel centres but not the screws and black plastic shrouds! thats fixes the wheels onto the knuckles, i do think the knuckles and wheels are made as one part in the factory so i may neeed a complete new axle with wheels attached, yep im confused as well.. ..
  25. Recently i purchased a used boxed UH Mcormick ZTX off ebay, the item was broken byond repair when it arrived, yep i was done as though i tried to contact the seller i have had no replies but thats another story. Both front wheels had snapped off the front axle and though i have looked it cannot be repaired so i am wondering is there any spare parts for these models available?, all i need is a new set of front wheel centres and the knuckle joints with mudguards that attaches to the axle. It would hate to throw the model away as it is in otherwise good condition. \.. Any help would be fantastic..
