  1. Came across these two bits today when researching something else....First from HSE second from DOT

Under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations1992 (SMR) (as amended), where roll-over protective structures (ROPS) or mounting points for ROPS are fitted, manufacturers are required to fit seats, including passenger seats, with operator restraints which keep drivers in their seats without restricting any movements necessary for driving. (NB for mobile machines used at work, manufacturers are required to provide mounting points for ROPS where there is a risk of rolling over.)Tractors are NOT covered by SMR and there are no regulations directly requiring manufacturers to provide operator restraints for tractor seats.

In on-road accidents, lap belts would probably save two fatalities per  year and fifteen serious injuries if fitted and used in all ROPS  (Roll-Over Protective Structures) equipped vehicles. Off-road, such  systems would probably save a further one life and five serious  injuries. The equivalent financial savings (as used by the Department of  Transport) outweigh the estimated costs of installing lap belts to all  new agricultural vehicles with ROPS by approximately 3:1.

  2. JCB forklifts have had them for well over 15 years  - I think that came over from the industrial models, but most tractors all seem to have them the last 5 years or so. The NH even has one for the passenger.  :)

  3. I haven't been in his shed for a while! he's building a new house so has been quiet on the tractors. I think that was the backend of a 35 but not sure, Marcus 'on the ball' Barret.  :D

  4. You've got some nice machinery there now.  ;) There are quite a few SAM sprayers up here and they have a good reputation. I think there's one on 36m booms.

  5. Like everything else, every farm is different but personally I work machine size to HP available and area to cover. I think many farms now have over capacity in cultivation in their attempts to get everything done 'on time'.

I prefer to have odd multiples of drill size to tramline width e.g. 3m drill, 21m tramlines (7 x 3) or 4m drill, 20m tramlines so no messing with half drill widths on headlands.  :)
