  1. Its from an Accurate Armour gun tractor resin kit, but to be honest I only used their cab, wheels and part of the chassis (which was twisted by the way!!) the rest of it is scratch built. Its in 1:35 scale, but it looks fine next to everything else.

I fancy one of their Ruston Bucyrus kits but they're not cheap.  :of

  2. As above - most outdoor jobs in winter. Lifting and feeding turnips (swedes) by hand then forking them out the trailer to sheep on the grass.

Or moving electric sheep nets on swedes when wellies stick in the mud and the hoggs are so ravenous they get tangled up trying to get to fresh feed and the net is catching on the swedes, and it's snowing. >:(

.... We don't have sheep anymore  ;)

    Strangely, neither do I.  :D

  3. Oh dear, I can remember singling by hand. I twas a good day if there were four or five of you, but on your own like that pic it was a killer.  :)

We grew a lot of sugar beet and veg and in the 60s father bought a 'gapper' - 3 big scalloped steel wheels mounted at an angle to the rows which moved the soil in 4" blocks and left the plants in the scallops. It was OK if all the seeds sown had germinated.

We stopped growing when the sugar beet factory at Cupar in Fife closed in the 60s. Up until then we used to haul the beet to the station and tip them into railway wagons (basically the old 'coal wagons') for delivery.  :)
