  1. This from elsewhere.... Life in the Australian Army... Text of a letter from a kid from Eromanga to Mum and Dad. (For Those of you not in the know, Eromanga is a smalltown, west of Quilpie in the far south west of Queensland ) Dear Mum & Dad, I am well. Hope youse are too. Tell me big brothers Doug and Phil that the Army is better than workin' on the farm - tell them to get in bloody quick smart before the jobs are all gone! I wuz a bit slow in settling down at first, because ya don't hafta get outta bed until 6am. But I like sleeping in now, cuz all ya gotta do before brekky is make ya bed and shine ya boots and clean ya uniform. No bloody cows to milk, no calves to feed, no feed to stack - nothin'!! Ya haz gotta shower though, but its not so bad, coz there's lotsa hot water and even a light to see what ya doing! At brekky ya get cereal, fruit and eggs but there's no kangaroo steaks or possum stew like wot Mum makes. You don't get fed again until noon and by that time all the city boys are buggered because we've been on a 'route march' - geez its only just like walking to the windmill in the back paddock!! This one will kill me brothers Doug and Phil with laughter. I keep getting medals for shootin' - dunno why. The bullseye is as big as a bloody possum's bum and it don't move and it's not firing back at ya like the Johnsons did when our big scrubber bull got into their prize cows before the Ekka last year! All ya gotta do is make yourself comfortable and hit the target - it's a piece of piss!! You don't even load your own cartridges, they comes in little boxes, and ya don't have to steady yourself against the rollbar of the roo shooting truck when you reload! Sometimes yagotta wrestle with the city boys and I gotta be real careful coz they break easy - it's not like fighting with Doug and Phil and Jack and Boori and Steve and Muzza all at once like we do at home after the muster. Turns out I'm not a bad boxer either and it looks like I'm the best the platoon's got, and I've only been beaten by this one bloke from the Engineers - he's 6 foot 5 and 15 stone and three pick handles across the shoulders and as ya know I'm only 5 foot 7 and eight stone wringin' wet, but I fought him till the other blokes carried me off to the boozer. I can't complain about the Army - tell the boys to get in quick before word gets around how bloody good it is. Your loving daughter, Sheila
  2. CTI, Central Tyre Inflation, Ag Chem use it a lot, also Vervaet. However it is very common in Brasil, maybe 50% of trucks have it - particularly in the Soya regions. Roads go from superb to cobbles to tracks in very few kilometres..
  3. Big?? Tris will be rolling on the floor....
  4. HP Scanjets are also worth a lok, 600 or 1200dpi. You will need to save to at least 300dpi or greater - if tou are taking the time to do it then do it properly. You might also consider an external drive or backups as well - the obvious reason being that should the worst happen you have a copy. The reason for >300 dpi if that at anu less you will get pixelation should you come to print some of your precious leaflets in hi res! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HP-ScanJet-6300c-colour-scanner-BARGAIN_W0QQitemZ160317275246QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Scanners?hash=item160317275246&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1690%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

  6. Kneed it then kneed it some more... When filling / finishing use dental picks. To get a smooth finish use water / fingers / baby buds as it is in the going off stage. When fully cured can be cut / sanded to final shape.
  7. Wooden profiles, levelling staf, Wish I had a pound for everyone of those I did as a banksman / surveyors runner. Sam Tyler moment...
  8. Not brand knocking - but how did your Dad fand the Case 850's? Reason for asking my father had some on trial against existing Cat 955, 944's and Drotts, found the Case drivetrains a little unreliable, the first one failing in days IIRC. OK the machines were on much heavier work at times directly digging rock chalk which may have shown the weak points. Stayed with Cat in the end, but great photos of classic plant. Will have to find mine when I can!
  9. Not forgetting Massey Harris 820 Pony (Will be real interesting as listed as an MF....) Fordson E27N Roadless
  10. A neighbor had the set up, worked OK with Golden Retrievers as they learnt where the Boundary was. If Bassets are the goldfish of the canine world might take longer....

  13. Long term normal primer / paint will detach from Brass. Brass forms an oxide layer almost instantly, and retains grease / oil in its surface. Use an etch primer, eg: http://www.finescale.org.uk/show_page.php?pid=110 scroll to page bottom. As it says a tin lasts ages.

  15. Xmas present solved, you give hime the Squires unit, he buys you the Proxxon!
  16. Can chop lengths, or, if using the abrasive disc cutter, can notch material if you are careful. nige green has one - when I saw it you knew suddenly what you were missing. Rose's in Devizes are Proxxon agents.
  17. About £80 - 85 Mine cost me £110 three years ago - but worth every penny. Superb repeatability and fast. Uses standard 50mm discs or saw blades depending on material.
