Thanks everyone for your input. I like the display cases Sue, I plan on doing a few small Dioramas too and setting them around the room or on the wider part of the base before the shelves begin. Wil, I am relying heavily on a carpenter friend who has made cabinets in the past and he is pushing me towards one-piece glass doors. I don't think I mind too much as long as it is light, dust-free and compliments the room. Glass shelves are a must, I was thinking of lighting from above and, from experience, I have learned not to put too much on the shelves as the lower down you go the darker it gets. Has anyone tried lighting from below as well? Thanks again all.

We have added on to our house this year, this gives my wife a craft room and me an office/model display room. I already have 3 freestanding display cabinets filled with models in the living room (yeah, Lois is a saint) but I'm looking at building about 14' (4'5m) of built-in cabinetry along one wall of the new office. I was thinking of making the bottom 2' storage and having the next 5' up as glass shelving with doors. Does anyone have any ideas or advice from experience or planning/dreaming about your own?

Hehehe, yeah, thats a real nice sounding machine. I was at an auction about 10 years ago where a somewhat down on its luck construction company was selling off its older (mostly 1960s) fleet of CATs and they had 16 of them lined up in two rows of 8 facing each other idling. It was so cool walking down that row, you'd see guys just smiling enjoying the dinosaurs rumble. It was actually a bit intimidating

Deutz DX 110 under a variable load always does it for me. I can sit all day with the windscreen open a bit listening to it. Another good one is a Versatile 875 with a good load, really nice.

I'll admit, I'm not very familiar with the real thing but I can see nothing that would need changing. There are very few model manufacturers out there that can make that claim in my experience. Top of the line model and, incidentally, very nice people to deal with.

After waiting what seemed like ages, due to a postal strike here in Canada, I have recieved my latest purchase, a Fella TS 456 DN rake by MarGE Models. It is freakin' AWESOME!!! Detail is second to none for an implement. It comes with a multi-hole stand and pin, separate PTO shaft and an adapter plate to hook up to Britains style hitches. The rake teeth are of such fine wire, they look to scale when a toy would need to be more robust and the teeth would then look too beefy. Adjusting crank, swath board, flotation tires on walking axles, its all spot-on in my opinion. I have to say the packaging has to be seen to be believed. First of all, an outer sleeve around the box to protect the box. Then the box itself is black with a high quality picture of the model and printed Fella and MarGe Models signage. It has a hinged lid and inside is a foam cube. On top of the cube is a colour brochure with pictures of the real machine and the model and a description in Dutch German and English. This is all tied together with a red ribbon. The top of the cube lifts off and inside sits the model on a small raised plastic base with more foam around it to stop it from shaking around. The whole packaging concept reminds me of the way Lois' Swarovski crystal collectibles are packaged. The model survived a trip from Holland to Canada unscathed. I would say, the best implement I have in my collection and the best packaging ever. I am now saving my dollars to get the tedder to go with it.

What kinda stuff is on the DVD Matt? Modern film or vintage film of the tractor?

I have all of them and they're a nice subsection of my collection I think. Nicely detailed models, way nicer than the older Ertl 1:32 artics but nothing like as detailed as UH stuff.

Geeze, someone tries to give you the information they have and get called down for it. Hasn't anyone heard about the whole building anticipation thing, I believe its called marketing.

The young fella who works part-time in the lumber yard where I'm yard manager lost a good lifelong friend on the weekend in a truck roll-over. It seems bad road conditions (washboard effect on a gravel road) speed and no seat belt were all contributing factors. The lad that was killed was leaving a party as a passenger in a vehicle that crashed a few hundred yards into its trip. My co-worker was also at the party and was one of the people who got to the scene of the accident first. Very stressful and sad for him. Early 20s, we think (or thought) we're immortal at that age........

Since we rented our land out, Dad is "playing" at being a cattleman with around 35 cows. Most of these are Belted Galloways, being a bit of a nostalgia kick since that's the local breed back where we came from in Scotland. He is quite surprised at how much less feed they require in winter and also, last year was a challenging year (to say the least) to put up quality hay, he is pleased with how they wintered on the lower quality feed compared to the Limo, Simmy, Red Angus crosses that make up the rest of his little herd. He is planning on down-sizing a little more and would like to have around 25 cows and, at this time, his plan is for them all to be the Belties.

Dunno the answer Lee but if they're dead-set on using that system then that string stuff is a big improvment over that $@#**^* wire! To me, cutting the wire isn't the problem, its that the wire is so inflexible upon removal that that is when the damage is done, breaking off small pieces or even breaking pieces holding on to the model while trying to feed the wire back around axles etc.

Yep, from what I've heard and watched my neighbour experience, the're dogs. All down to that V8 engine. I'm absolutely no fan of V8s in farm tractors.

Used to be a rumour around here that in that 835, 850 875 895 or so series that the only difference was a few spacers/ washers in the injector pump to change the horsepower output. So, to stop everyone buying 835s and buying the spacers and getting cheap power, each spacer could only be bought from Cummins for around $4000 each! Maybe it was a bit of a (sub)urban legend but it was a story with "legs" for years.

Aye, kudos to you Paul, that's a fine looking conversion. Interesting what you say though about the advance of model, let's call it authenticity. I notice criticisms (and I'm not saying whether they're founded or unfounded) leveled at models today that would have been met with tears of joy and songs of praise five-plus years ago when the forum was in short trousers. Our levels of expectation seem to me, to have sky-rocketed in the last few years. I remember seeing the UH Renault Atles with duals front and rear and thinking "it can't get any better than this", now I'm sure it's considered one of UH's more basic models. Makes y' wonder what we will be expecting five years from now......

Don't want to flood this topic with the eBay thing but I have to get my 2 cents worth in here . I've bought some on Ebay (nearly 200 transactions) and have had no problems whatsoever on all but a couple of deals. I have never sold anything but just reading about what a minefield selling can be what with incredibly stupid buyers and eBay's own policies regarding sellers, I doubt I will ever use it as a place to sell. What I can't undrstand is, can't eBay see that they will cut their own throat by eventually driving most sellers (and by association, buyers) away. In the name of buyer protection, the pendulum has swung too far towards the buyer.

Yep, looks good. I'm also a fan of the backdrop, makes for uncluttered pictures with no distractions.

Same for me, the '70s '80s and '90s seem to be where its at for me right at the moment. I'm really warming to highly detailed implements too. I want to see what the International (1455?) from Schuco will be like.

Still today for me but yesterday for most of you. Up late 'cos Lois and I and her cousin watched a couple of movies late the night before. Off to Dad's and watched Stevenage Vs Torquay then UTD Vs Barca (either end of the spectrum there ) Surfing now and wondering how to justify my existence tomorrow, expect it will have to do with repairing fences.
