  1. Marky, Marky, Marky. :D I'll see if I can find you a pic of a late-model JD. John, I remember the odd dodgey scraper tractor but they weren'too banged-up the ones that I remember, maybe just rusty.
  2. Aye, we've done that a time or two Nathan. normally it's 'cos we lost an "R" clip from the drawbar pin or once on the 4.70 we lost the drawbar I can get out there with the loader, push the spreader down and we can be hooked up and away in a couple of minutes, that's small tatties now. No probs this year but last year we lost the whole beater section off the Concord. That was a lot of loader lifting and a few bolts and back in business. What worries me most about that spreader is the tyres. I know I'll never find replacements over here. SPN, I looked for a while for weights but couldn't find a set. It's just a bit too hard on the wee tractor, that job anyway (not to mention the operator) and when our mate offered the 4240 it sounded like the right remedy. Once we're done at home, we go and clean corrals for him, not a big job and no dosh changes hands. Rears on the 4.70 are Goodyear dyna-torque2s 18.4-34 Don't remember the fronts but I'll look later. 4 cylinder turboed engine although I think the turbo is worn-out. The tractor runs hot for an air-cooled engine, all the usual stuff is fine but my engine specialists say if the turbo is worn it could be creating a restriction and creating heat build-up so if I've got the cash, the turbo's coming off this winter.
  3. SPN is bang-on with what he says about Claas combines being marketed through Ford dealers. I don't know when that agreement ended, the mid to late eighties I'd guess. Then the Claas combine's next guise was,of course, in Caterpillar livery as seen in the same photo. Marky, the 1805 had just had a paint-job. It's a former MF dealership that has it. Now they sell GM automobiles.
  4. Cheap an' heavy. Sounds like the qualifications for a boat anchor.
  5. Nice pictures there John. My Dad had a Nuffield 3 for a winter for feeding outside cattle when I was very young but it developed a serious engine noise so it was sold the following spring. Later on a neighbour had a 4/65 with a David Brown loader on it. A great set-up.
  6. This 2130 wasn't sold as a salvage-only unit, however, it was in really rough shape. The range gear lever was broken off It had lots of leaks and going by the tin-work, it must have had a loader at some time or the brakes didn't work. Show us your "I can't believe it's running" pictures.
  7. This is a guy who likes to mess around on a few acres on his days off... Actually he has about 20,000 odd acres up here and a crapload down in The States.
  8. If I remember correctly, that one only made 4500 bucks. Even if you re-power it, it's not a big enough tractor for serious grain farming any more. To be quite honest, I don't know of many with any amount of hours on them. 5000 is doing really well.
  9. ......the 574 pulling a Concord 8 tonne spreader. The spreader is really a Belarus, Concord seems to be a name they cooked up. This is quite a load for the IH but y' gotta do what y' gotta do. Right at this point is where the trouble starts. Dunno if you can tell but it's just starting to snow and with the weight hanging off the back of the spreader...the whole outfit comes to a spinning halt. Picture 2 is the remedy. Borrow yer mate's JD 4240. We've been doing this for the last 2 years and no, colour has nowt to do with it, 5000lbs and 50 extra HP does. ?
  10. This is our corral (cattle pens) cleaning outfit. First is the Deutz Agrotron 110 complete with economy ballast weight. Second picture is the 4.70 pulling a 425 bu. Leon Silver Spreader. It has a hydraulic push bulkhead. Great spreader, easy to operate and requires low horsepower.
  11. A close-up of the triple nickel. This was a really nice tractor. Pity the engines in them are terrible. Second picture is a 2-105 White (I think) and one really sad 2130 John Deere, so the auctioneer said.
  12. These were taken at a consignment auction a year or so ago. I really hope that I haven't posted these before. \ A couple of general shots..
  13. Sorry Doc, but you have to keep the rabble happy Here's a couple more for the slightly less un-educated. First is an International 3788. Would look good as the next Toy Farmer 4WD eh? Second is an MF 1805 which is, I believe, for sale. How about it Marky? Your wife wouldn't need to worry about shelf space.
  14. Gotta admit Doc, it doesn't get tiring in "big sky country". When we do get clouds it can make for some fantastic thunder storms. My wife goes out and takes pictures during storms (Yeah, I didn't know that when we got hitched ) she has some great pics, I'll post some some time. If you emigrate, stop in and make sure you bring your Mini pick-up.
  15. I snapped these photos on a parts run last summer. First is a John Deere 8640 with an Unverferth grain cart. Second is a John Deere 7800
  16. I found another picture of the International (and Dad). This is its other big job each year. The wrapper is a Norse made in Norway.
  17. Nope, when you carpet farm with Deutz it's like reality, you need to worry about the fuel going stale in the tank, not about getting it to the tractor. :D
  18. Same here, still got the one we had as kids. Good toy, nice model. I broke the hitch on it a couple of years ago when it was badly packed in a box of models coming home from a toy show. I ended up having to glue a plastic piece of box section lenghways under the hitch to strenghten tha whole shebang.
  19. great pics jdc. I can remember pestering the heck out of my dad trying to get him to buy a 565 when that style of MF came out. To no avail I might add.....
  20. Hi Nigel, what's new at Scaledown? What will we be seeing this year? Any chance of an International 574 someday? How do folks decide what you're gonna build? Some kond of informal poll, or just what you like?
  21. Top of the line work there Steve. I'm not usually into convos, but I really like yours. Very good workmanship it seems. It's nice to see lots of variations, not just variations of numbers of wheels (which is what I seem to be seeing at some local shows recently)
  22. Very tasty Bill, I'll be looking to see one up close.
