My questions are Niels do any model makers do a bunker maus? Also is 16 rows of maize at what spacings equal 12m? Id like to also find out if i could block every other coulter on my sprinter would drill maize? Iv tried looking on Krone UK and can only find a 12 row header which is 10 meters, i know kemper did a whooping 20 row!

Sadly they don't Alex as you will know all to well. 16 rows of maize x 0.75 is 16m but like you pointed out Krone 'only' do a 10.5m version cutting 14 rows. Just two rows short sadly.. no way of extending that, which is a pain.

I like your idea of blocking coulters. What spacing would you get? I believe there is more and more biogas drilled at 37.5cm (basically a row in between a 75cm drill). However, on your acreage the saving on seed with a precision drill would be quite substantial?

The Maistro drill Joe showed would fit well in a CTF system but the grain and fert tank isn't much different to your current drill Alex? Hence why I brought up the idea of swapping the rear attachment if such a thing is possible.

With the easter wknd well under way only a couple of us in for the next couple of days keeping things ticking over before the back log of next week kicks in ,We got the wheels changed on the 818 yesterday all ready for the ridgers next week when we hit the spud planting , while we had em in the workshop we decided to make some modifications and now we can pull 2 beds at the desired depth we need due to our fine soil conditions where we will be planting !    And just as I was about to sit down in the office for a well deserved cup of tea , what rolled into the yard but John lock from buglers with a t7.200 we agreed to have on demo , not sure wether the lads are too keen on the blue after having the comfort of there green machines . On the demo front we were really impressed with the s series valtra and are definitely looking into wether we can close a deal , shes now gone off down to Alex's to put her through her paces ! We have got a couple more demos planned so watch this space !!!!

I have looked at our Horsch drill and its compatability for maize, had my thinking cap on and worked out we could drill 18 rows in 12 meters @ 66.7cm (26.25in) spacings which would suit the variety we have chosen to grow for biogas production as it perfers 15-20inch spacings as opposed to the norm 29. Of course we may need a kemper type header for harvest that is not row dependant? Thoughts please!

End of another week everything going full pelt ! plough about to go back out , 95 acres of stubble to be turned over ready for spring wheat to be drilled in straight behind . On cleaning out the lagoon ,with the slurry being spread on stubbles before they all get ploughed up ready for maize drilling . Started ground preparation for potatoes today with the tiller on in front for depth  and the ridgers on behind , tomorrow we will start destoning and planting , a good job under way .

After breakdowns over the weekend saw our potato planter disappear off to Manor Farm to replace there planter which broke down , In return Stews planter has been in our workshop and has just started planting again behind our 724 , fingers crossed she'll keep going , On a positive note the destoner and the modified bedformer working a treat ,plus cracking conditions to work in allways makes the job easier . We've managed to plant 20 acres so far and with another 30 acres left should knock a hole in the job soon . Just going out to roll 450 acres of plough ground ahead of power harrowing for maize drilling . A little break in the week for the lads a few hours off to go down to Smarts agricultural services Thursday night for there open day / evening , Best leave the cheque book at home !!!

The last 15 acres or so of spuds to go in we turn our attention  to  the maize drilling rareing to go and all 3 ploughs out turning over stubbles , with 1 plough down at oakleys and stew Elliott on with his plough its all full pelt , as we stand the total just keeps on rising week by week and with us taking on Montgomerys ground at north Cadbury total acres around 1200 , and 20 acres over at hatch , another 100 acres at Atwells down at podimore , and 100 acres at Langs  down at curry rival , we are totalling up and around 2000 acres of maize drilling this year , so its all hands to the pump with the help of Alex & Stew . The discs not far behind the ploughs on the heavier ground that tends to bake , just making it easier for when we pull in with the power harrows . The old 936 has just gone back and in place a shiney new 939 has just arrived from compass tractors of taunton along with a new krone forage box , adding another string to our bow which we can send out as a 1 man band ! Still a few new arrivals in the near future ready for silage 2015 !

Look after the kit and the kit will look after you is what I always say buddy ! Gives us a good choice having a range of kit especially for our variable ground conditions and the prospect of acquiring more ground where we dnt have so much knowledge of how the land lies so to speak !!

A new week and potatoes all planted and kit all washed off and put in the shed until next year , On the agenda this week the new fendt 939 and pottinger triples getting a once over before they go off tomorrow helping out stew down at manor farm cutting there way through 300 plus acres of grass alongside  stews mowers , 1st time out for this kit so will be interesting to see how this performs before main cutting season begins , also the 724 and 1 of the Richard westerns will be off on duty aswell ! Back on the farm the last of the high yielding milkers have gone out to pasture today leaving us with only calves and 5 month old heifers left indoors . Pencilled in for end of the week fertalising and maize drilling to commence , with the fert being stored down Alexs yard at Oakley , it will probably be a double attack with the spreading , all weather permitting !!

Yesterday afternoon saw us start maize drilling , with 200 acres in 1 block at hinton park and 100 acres just down the road at stockbridge farm , Both Alex and Stew have been called in to help out with ploughing and power harrowing , this saw 4 power harrows out including our new 6metre lemkin and Alexs 6metre maschio ! also we had 2 ploughs in action aswell to get the ground covered asap ! Were also on discing in front of the plough with the gregoire besson discs trying to make ploughing that much easier due to really hard ground conditions .So far weve got around 70 acres in with only around another 1900 acres to put in ! So far so good with plenty going on and busy times ahead !!

Thanks pat , well I think its just down to preference really and soil conditions , We've allways drilled maize on row crops aswell as drilling beet with the same outfit , On the plus side for us the drills coulters dnt follow the tyre width there just inside and outside , so just reduces compaction behind the wheels which you get on some wider tyre widths .
