Drill looks very similar build to the STEGSTED we had for many years from the early 60s, 4 3/4" row spacing.Badge engineered maybe? Danish built, I think from memory. I have some coulters cast to "oneday" convert a Britains NORDSTEN......

Built by Swedish company Samaskin and badge engineered as Ih. Very few remain I believe I can't find much online about them

Not a lots been happening recently 20 more days until the first weekend of proper rallies start again 😍😍

In the mean time here are some updates.

Few weeks ago I took my fergie to Malvern which went down very well. Lots of interest from it.PXL_20230310_183404066.thumb.jpg.f9c1ac6f69592492370de485b9ebb1ae.jpgPXL_20230311_174332074.thumb.jpg.117e7c1da80d7777d0861697f03857bd.jpg

Next up is another couple of projects which I really didn't need 🤣 a Leyland 285 which will eventually become a tractor puller/road run tractor and needs quite a bit of work.

PXL_20230322_163705196.thumb.jpg.9228807908b46cf972ac22584b1e7de9.jpg

The other is a lovely original Somerset registered 1949 Allis B which came from North Devon but previously to that sold in Cornwall. So now back home.  This doesn't need a lot doing hopefully get it going easy enough PXL_20230408_095106529.thumb.jpg.77b1131fbeae8466c2b028acaa0e296a.jpg

Leyland doesn't look that bad Zac.... But my advice is walk round it and make a list of what you think it needs, then add the prices up of said bits and add roughly another 75% on top as I found with the 472, once you get into it you always find further stuff that needs doing and your budget for the project gets eaten up fairly quick..... Will make a nice thing though 👍 just be prepared to spend a few £££

Yes it will definately be a project and a long term one at that. Hopefully it won't be as bad as it looks from first inspection

Once you hear that 6 fire into life and get warm to know she's not mixing or low on pressure then you half way to knowing your on to a winner. Rest is just time and money.... Big question will be if your leaving her with the rubber engine mounts or making her solid and back to like a 4 pot set up with a proper chassis

On closer look today it looks like someone has remade the chassis and have done a decent job at it, but still on rubber mounts. Got the cab off this evening ready to push into the shed to strip down PXL_20230410_161506241.thumb.jpg.24fe157840de8b49f362529b3d3b141b.jpg

Sounds well Zac 👍👍 what's next, start making a shopping list?

Something like that 😭 mechanically it is sound, it needs a rear PTO seal as it is leaking badly and a hydraulic pump as it is not functioning correctly and full of metallics. But apart from that steering is incredibly tight, brakes work just want adjusting gears and clutch are smooth and engine fires up instantly 👌

Realising I haven't updated this for a while;

May was a very Allis Chalmers Month. Started off at Abbey Hill Steam Rally on the may bank holiday for the Friday and Saturday, then the Saturday evening embarked on the 250 mile journey east to Stradsett near Downham Market in Norfolk for their Allis Chalmers special, great show and some lovely tractors, even bumped into a dodgy fella from up that way (Smithy 😆) covered nearly 600 miles that weekend but was a good to see a different show and different tractors to the norm, and when working out fuel costs I burnt a tank and a half in my l200 and I reckon it cost me half a tank of fuel and 25 minutes each way extra in time to take a tractor up there and back. Not bad going

PXL_20230429_095124903.thumb.jpg.4ed7092df757d89af732a086c93c52f2.jpgPXL_20230430_082819372.thumb.jpg.9c3e5cf54a12ceb2e016cf51d49389fc.jpg

Same tractor, 2 rallies, same weekend. 250 miles apart!

Later on in May I went to the Westonzoyland Pumping stations Steam on the levels event with the ED40 for a nice chilled out weekend.

Moving on to June and July a quiet couple of months, took the 8210 on a couple of charity road runs and got my new Leyland 285 running properly. I was going to make it into a cabless road run tractor but seeing as there weren't many built I think I better restore it to original. PXL_20230617_161001544.thumb.jpg.ec8da822c55c2e197ed747ce3e81ef3a.jpgPXL_20230709_130515494.thumb.jpg.c188d5de918dace85f0dabb46e04a42d.jpgPXL_20230709_132148306.thumb.jpg.ec4fc4142ddb3a4704c229f8d3d4f020.jpgPXL_20230604_160905339.thumb.jpg.c5d73bffa2ad98b60e008be8cba1d548.jpgPXL_20230709_122927652.thumb.jpg.cf2eb381d41707e908916abbd9cde463.jpg

Back in early Spring I bought an Allis B as a trailer load of bits, after some new tyres and fixing a few bits and sourcing an original bonnet it is now back together and looking a lovely original tractor, and has Somerset history which is a nice touch. It'd first outing was Yesterday's Farming and it sat alongside a friend's B also supplied by Hawkes of Taunton around the same time. PXL_20230813_165750339.thumb.jpg.872909a4d700ef7cb7ab7b6f437eaeb4.jpgPXL_20230813_165805240.thumb.jpg.de3f60a7f1ef1ad70e3c2380b1912e59.jpgPXL_20230819_074833450.thumb.jpg.111d42d68e00559ea5361311e53b19a5.jpgPXL_20230819_105522086.thumb.jpg.a719a2a14cec16afce53686d0023feb5.jpgPXL_20230813_165758093.thumb.jpg.2bacd6a427ac05c820dfbe3e253c485b.jpg

Also at Yesterday's Farming I took my Original IH 6414 with S6-1 drill, and sat alongside a friends W4 and earlier McCormick drill on the International Club stand. PXL_20230813_144724390.thumb.jpg.4ecdd38ad05b05feb4b6b2b077ebded1.jpgPXL_20230820_115227287.thumb.jpg.56f47c2059814a7b46c56e2c3442b2d3.jpgPXL_20230813_144715250.thumb.jpg.0e5a41532c156b5863764379737d8a42.jpg

I also had a go on a good friend of mine Martin's Roadless 115 with cultivator in the working section ,and also drove my mates Ed40 with binder which was the first time it was working in over 25 years.

Barn find recovered today saved from the scrapman hands. Late 40s/early 50s Carter Bros "The Unique" Straw elevator. First time it has moved in 50 years and the first and last time it has left the farm since purchase. Something a bit different to get ready for yesterday's farming next year

Well done ,i had one of them which we had stored undercover for years so was in real good order ,i gave mine to a local steam enthusiast that often had open days for charities with me it was just stuck in back of shed where nobody could see it

They look an interesting contraption pretty straight overall just needs a few bits of wood and some new belts. Couldn't let it get burnt and weighed in

Nice to see something like this saved, a difficult thing to store I reckon. Not to much worm I hope. Carter Bros were from Billingshurst, West Sussex. I suspect the wheels would have been sold for a Shepherds Hut construction, can't be that much iron/steel in one of these surely?

Nice to see one by a smaller manufacturer - they are usually Blackstones down here.

Little bit of woodworm but not too much luckily. It will get a treatment of wood hardener/woodworm treatment and then linseed oil to preserve it further.

I imagine it would have ended up as a chassis for a shepherds hut. I was contacted by the lady the farm was her parents and has been sold so the contents of the farm had to go. I was allowed access before the scrapman cleared the lot

There are quite a few Carter ones about, one of the more popular id say. Couple about locally now including this

Some recent updates

Took the ed40 on an illuminated road run through Bridgwater just before Christmas, bit cold and wet but an enjoyable evening. PXL_20231210_171908285.thumb.jpg.f95e071a83b0129bdc0e04e163bd3d5e.jpgPXL_20231210_173150238.thumb.jpg.0744632c47a9c3ed323612f76e4a0d7d.jpg

Then it was our Annual new year's day road run. I took the 8210 out for the day and avoiding most of the floods on the Somerset levels we managed to get 134 tractors and raised just over £3000 for charity

Then at the end of January I took all 3 of my Allis Chalmers up to the Bath and West for the Somerset tractor show a good weekend
