Grass time

Just wondering how close most are to silage time, just gone pst a cut and rowed up field next to the motorway at taunton , looked to be good size rows as well , seems a little early though, well to me

On the way home from Spalding last Sunday and there was a full fleet, mower, rake and a John Deere forager working on the airfield of the A17 at Newark.

Have to say I was surprised as the grass only looked around 6 inches high

Grass has to be kept short on the airfields so they cut it early then keep on top of it.

To be honest everything else i am passing is rolled and nothing more, so this does seem very early. But as i said they appear to be good thick rows so it must have been ready i guess, that or they are really desperate for it

Passed another field this morning that had been knocked down however, there is a grass drying plant outsde Knutsford and I think that quite a lot goes there to be converted into pellets for stock feed, they obviously want to get the plant up and running asap

They were at it over here 3 weeks ago.  Pit silage was done by one farmer & 2 others were bailing . Growth is very strong and a few fields were gone beyond grazing .. Earliest I have ever seen it start.

went past a load of cut fields on the way back this afternoon around Bridgewater  way, so its started that way at least. everything else north and south of that ways just rolled so far mind.
