Deere-est Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 South Dakota, 2003. I'm driving Number 3 combine. Some pics for Sascha after his interest in his MF Topic. For anyone else, consider them a tease for what is to come when I get my butt in gear and get the rest of the pics on PB!! The MacDon Swather a couple of fields away with 36ft header in barley. A view from the cab over the pick up header on the combine. You can see the belts clearer to the right of the pic. Quote
Deere-est Posted March 21, 2008 Author Posted March 21, 2008 Combine Number 1 was away cutting wheat for baling but we got the second of these pics one evening when we parked up in near the town. Quote

Tractorman810 Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 That's Chris mate, it was his brother who offered me the month on spud planting in May over in Denmark. ah thought it was a little tall to be you,but i might have missed the milk grates under you :D Quote
graham Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 great pics tris must of been a great experience for you , can you remember how many acres you done and was it all swathed Quote
Richard de Florennes Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 according the pictures I would presume this swathing method would result in or at least be related to lower yields? Still do not understand the advantage of the swathing method. By the way, very nice and impressive pictures - a very welcome change to all those pictures from the German Rhine valley countryside over and over again ;-) Quote
Light Land Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Neat pictures Tris. It's a shame the NZ trip did'nt turn out like the US trip. Quote
CCF Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Excellent pictures mate, looks like it was quite a great experience...were you on the swather at all? Quote
Deere-est Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 The swather was nothing to do with us this time. The farmer here swathed it with a trailed machine. By the time we finished up with soya beans and milo in Kansas I think we had cut 25,000 acres with the three machines. I will get the rest of the pics up, just not sure when Quote
graham Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 :o :o :othat is some acreage mate that must be some job fella , ;) Quote
Tractorman810 Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 did they have any breakdowns in that 25000 acres, i know some years you can go every 10 acres and have probs Quote
Deere-est Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 These Gleaners are threshing simplicity Sean, a dream to drive, service and work on. Nothing is complicated on them whatsoever and breakdowns though rare don't hold you up very long provided the parts back up is good. One had fuel problems with the enjectors I remember and a centre draper belt got eaten and wrapped round the drum twice but that was the headers not the combine. I don't think we had any major problems come to think of it mate. Quote
Tractorman810 Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 not bad over that sort odf acreage and time scale as you move along really is it, would a jd or simialr mf ect do as well i wonder Quote
Deere-est Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 It is quite easy going on the machines I think mind, the ones we had were a 2001 and two 200's I think. Most of the bigger guys change them yearly so these performed well against other machines I think, ran rings round two Cat Lexion's in Oklahoma in the early stages Quote
FB Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 nice pics Tris, bit of an over kill though with that pick up header?, \ \ Quote
Deere-est Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 A little bit Ben. ... it wasn't half fun though Quote
super6 Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Is Gleaner the manufacturer? Didn't Allis Chalmers make a Gleaner model of combine in the 60's Quote
