marshman
Just wonded, how much is there still to be combined round your way. How many have finshed wheat, has anyone finshed beans?
nashmach
I would say about 25% to go still around our way - all the whear still left and lot of spring barley... As for us finally finished yesterday - 200 acres cut between us and took 25 days
CX820Joe
I don't think they've even started on beans around here!
BC
Not really much by way of wheat grown around my area and still quite a lot of barley to fall. There is a field of corn yes corn which I would like to see harvested though.
FB
few fields of wheat left and i think all fields of beans. Went into the JCB dealer the other day, a few farmers reckon they need a few days of dry weather to finish \ \

nashmach
Will you struggle to break even this year Colm.Merchants are offering 130/t when break even 155k?? :'( :'( :'( Luckily all ours is on owned land as we keep some I can't be definitive on yield but would be surprised if we broke 2.8t/ac Our biggest problem is despite all our crops being sprayed well and on time, with the wet weather fusarium and sprouting set in so none is thus far gone for malting and i can't see the rest going either so that is down another €20t. That is a big hit to take. Overall as we do all the work ourselves apart from the combining which we swap labour for we will be okay - I suppose this is a 1 in 10 year event so I think we will see little profit this year - a pity as this year could be a good year to buy machinery due to the downturn and ending of the spending spree

massey man
due to the weather over here in northern ireland our contractor has still 1000 acres of cereals to cut second and third cut silage to do round baling silage and straw plough and sow winter cereals not to mention geting the slurry out before the spreading ban starts on 31st october which is an absoloute joke with the way the weather has been. jdc
Still about 80% of the wheat to cut locally and a couple still with some winter barley and OSR to cut No one has turned a wheel for 11 days. I 'only' have 95 cares left to cut.
Gav836
We finished harvest at 9.30 pm on the 30th of August and I finished baling at 11am on the 31st, we're just struggling to drill our rape now due to very wet fields \
marshman
Um sounds bad then, just spoke to the farmer again and he said they have about 40 acres of wheat left and 100acres + of barley. Then they have to start on there beans, i would say about 400acres to do of those :o

Funny I was just thinking yesterday evening that I haven't seen any gear on the road/in the fields for 2nd cut pit silage which is weird.Think some might have done round bales instead in a bid to have lighter machines in the fields??? f
