  1. You should be OK. They are in the second edition. Just shows how things can change though!!
  2. A copy of the fifth edition of this book has just arrived in the post. It is different to the second edition I picked up earlier in the week, no plans for a start. It looks as if it has had a makeover but still very interesting, lots of photos's, drawings etc. Not had time to compare the two yet. The later edions would appear to have a brown and white dust jacket with two workers shovelling on the front. Suggest you try and get a second edition if you can just for the plans.
  3. Hope you enjoy it smallclaas. Abebooks is a great place to look for books such as these. Had a phone call from the bookshop late yesterday afternoon. They have had another one come in, same subject, different book/author etc. Hopefully pick it up at the weekend and I'll post the details.
  4. Unfortunately he only had the one but there's two on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FARMING-BUILD-YOUR-OWN-FARM-BUILDINGS-HB-DW-1974_W0QQitemZ8388994821QQcategoryZ29262QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem AND http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Build-Your-Own-Farm-Buildings-by-Frank-Henderson_W0QQitemZ8391712657QQcategoryZ21535QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem These look like two different editions (mine is a second edition from 1960). Suspect the contents are pretty much the same. Also try abebooks.co.uk there are quite a few on here at various prices. Looking at those listed on abe there would appear to be five editions. Might try and get hold of a fifth edition to see what the revsions are.
  5. I'm thinking that I will base it on a period farm (post-war) and then add modern stuff so it shows renewal as farming practices and methods have changed in the last 60 years. Got a name for it (St Mary's Farm) and a general layout. Size about 550-600 acres, with approx 250 acres cereals, 125 acres potatoes and the rest used for raising beef with fields for silage and grazing with some woodland and farm buildings. All one block of land with the yard next to a main road. Idea is to be as self-sufficient as possible with straw from the cereals being used for the beef and the slurry/manure going back on the fields. The pototoes 'cos I like the kit they use. Probably based somewhere along the A303/A30 Somerset/Devon area (yes I know that the land may not be suitable for potatoes but one can pretend!). Am currently sorting out he general farm plan and then will do the detailed farm yard plan and construction can start. Kit will be mainly Fendt and Claas....I want to be able to use my Fendt 930 and 936 with some big tackle! :) Will keep you up to date with progress but be patient as that thing call work is getting in the way.
  6. That's next door to the best county but it's almost as good!!
  7. Give me time!! Yep I live 6 miles from Honiton...in the best county in the UK
  8. Am off work today and was dragged into Honiton by the wife to do some shopping. Managed to get 10 minutes reprieve and nipped into a good second hand bookshop I visit regularly. The owner knowing my interested in farming had kept a book back for me. It's called Build Your Own Farm Buildings, written by Frank Henderson and published by Dairy Farmer Books in 1955. I know its old but the contents are amazing....pictures, drawings and in the middle 32 pages of Farm Buildings plans with dimensions, layouts. These cover everything from cowhouses, milking parlours, yards to pig buildings, sheep dips, grain stores. For two pounds I grabbed it. The owner says the guy who brought in has others and I'm waiting to see what these are like. Yes it's dated but gives some useful info on designing and building a model farm, particularly if you a building a period one. Recommended.
  9. There's also this site http://www.printmini.com/ Really meant for minature dolls houses but this page could be useful http://www.printmini.com/printables/wpf/bricks1.shtml
  10. Go to this URL - http://www.hongwell.com/enquiry/ On the folders menu that appears on the left click the 1:32nd and take a look at the folders 160 and 162. Not sure how accurate they are or whether the will make it to the UK but knowing the usual price for Hongwell/Cararama models they may privide a good source of cheap base models and parts for converters.
  11. The MF 1200 was first available over two years ago, at ToyTrac. That's where I got mine and it cost ?120. Brian only makes 999 of each of his models. He was at Shepton Mallet Toyfair last weekend and I think there was a 1200 on his stall, so he may still have stock. The phone number I have for him is 01646 661645, this is the daytime number. He does not have a website. If you want one give him a call and check on availablility. He will be going to Spalding in April. A word of warning.....if you look to buy on on the secondary market be aware that other Brian Norman models sell at up to 5 times their original issue price. They a well saught after by many!!
  12. Some one asked for photo's of the Brian Norman MF 1200. Having tried unsuccessfully to upload some photos to the Forum over the past couple of days I have created a fotopic album with the photo's of the MF 1200 in it. You can view it here http://peterharrison.fotopic.net/c856274.html I'll add some more photo's of the other Brian Norman models I have as well as some shots of the Scaledown kits I have built over the coming days/weeks. Enjoy!
  13. If anyone is interested I've got one of these I'm looking to sell. Just let me know! P
  14. There are quite a few on Ebay. Just got one from Germany with some other UH stuff, cost me 34 Euros plus about 7 Euros shipping. P
  15. One weekend about 6 years ago I went to a local 'antique' toy shop. ?He had just taken in a Britains collection, in it was 171F Fordson Major on spades. ?I negotiated and got it for ?275. ?Next day I went to the Shepton Mallet Toyfair and was extremely surprised to find a mint/boxed pair of 171F and 172F Super Majors, ?500 the pair. ?The wife was with me and virtually ordered me to by them. ?These models were rarely seen in such condition and we had been looking for a long while to add to the Britains collection. At the next Exeter Westpoint Fair about three months alter my wife bought me a mint and boxed 172F Fordson Major for ?300 as a birthday present. ?Expensive at the time but if one looks at the investment angle I think time has shown they were a very good buy. I would never spend more than these on a Britains tractor. ?Have spent ?150 several times on really rare Britains but these have been many years, I have been collecting Britains Farm for 25 years. P

(MF135) 2004 Limited Edition of 1500 My wife collects farm animals (mainly cows and sheep), BFA do a fine range of these and the tractors fit in well.? It also means I don't get moaned at when a new model arrives in the house. Any questions or quereis just let me know. P
  17. Yes I collect them as they fit in with what my wife collects. ?750 is a good price, I have seen this sell for ?1250. The first two they produced (a Fordson N on Spuds and a Ferguson TE20) have fetched ?4000 when the market was at its peak and will still go for ?2000 +. The range is fairly big, you get limited edition piece that is well produced and displays well. I think the most they have ever made of one model is 2000. Can post a list of all they have produced if anyone is interested. Country Artists also have a tractor range, I only have a couple of them (a SAME and a John Deere). Models are larger and production run is only about 500. BW P
  18. Just got off the phone to G+M, they have the 8W MTX 155 in stock. They say it has a re-desgined front axle so it looks as if its been of the market for a while while they sort out a desgin fault. Needless to say I ordered one along with a new MC115. P
