tractorboyjules1977
With the weather set fair for the next week or so at the end of the week the 1st of the maize will be started 600 acres up at Camelot hopefully no problems up there , 1st thing Monday morning saw myself and Alex bring the unenviable task of tracking up the new machine to the AD Plant at Somerset Agri Power , bit of fettling and hour later we managed to get the machine and hopper in the yard from Oakleys yard where shes been in the workshop being modified to suit the maize crop , Yes weve gone and bought a maus after loads of conversations of firms who run these machines we decided it was a good idea , on paper anyway !!!! now we have the task of taking it up to Camelot ready for loading Alexs lorries which will make the trip back cutting out the need for tractors & trailers on the road and a more economical approach over a greater distance ! Back in the yard getting the krone ready for maize on Friday

catkom3
How,do you use the Maus on the Maize then Julian,??? Regards Joe.
tractorboyjules1977
How,do you use the Maus on the Maize then Julian,??? Regards Joe. Alex has modified the whole front of the machine ,ie taken off all the rollers for fodder/sugar beet , replaced the webbing with conveyor belts and fabricated a whole new hopper . She will follow the blocks of maize around be parked up at the edge of the field basically the surrounding headland tracks where tractors and trailers will load her hopper and then she will load the bulkers from where she is situated , so therefore the lorries dnt leave hard ground and the tractors and trailers dnt leave the fields , ie saving time , diesel and bringing no mud or rubbish onto the roads , saving us time not having to go back and sweep up and keep the law off our backs !!!!!

catkom3
Thanks guys,I was wondering how good the hydraulics on those push off trailers compacted the load, and it looks like they do a very good job,I was thinking of getting the Wiking Euro Maus, but it looked a wee bit plasticky, more like Siku, but now I've seen this,??? Regards Joe.
Oakley Farms
It is quite plasticky Joe but that had its advantages and makes it workable to achieve things like the hopper. Also the amount of moving parts on it is amazing, more or less everything moves on it!
tractorboyjules1977
A cracking weeks sun and we've started the maize this afternoon, thought we would have 40 acres close to the farm just to make sure everythings working as it should be , before we go on up to Camelot for 3 or 4 days chopping up there so far so so good , with us being close to the farm only got 3 trailers running as they will be off chopping silage over the next few days .Ground conditions nice and firm so far long may it continue could do without machines getting stuck this year !!! First loads out and in the pit happy days !!

catkom3
Close Joe , the Mrs skewer sticks and the kids poster paint !! I bought some of these a while back http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Asian-Fusion-Bamboo-Range-Pack-Of-4-Rectangle-Placemats-2-Great-Colours-/171342772417?var=&hash=item27e4d338c1 The intention was to do a maize dio, they are all stitched together,it would be a case of cutting a thin track in the base board useing a router,Dremel maybe, then glueing the place mats into the groove, then once that had set,the mats could be cut off at the right height, and bashed with a hammer to make them look splintered like the real thing, Regards Joe.

Good idea Joe , ive looked at all sorts to make it easier than putting individual bits in , even had a word with paul from brushwood last year at toytrac about maize stubble , they were going to look into it , but haven't heard nothing, so any idea is worth a try !
Oakley Farms
Has Orchard farm drilled any winter wheat yet Julian, they give the weather breaking round here tonight?
tractorboyjules1977
Nah not yet Alex , aint got a spare tractor insight yet , with both foragers out on maize , now were up and running the maize for the AD Plant up at Camelot with the krone on up there running alongside the 939s and the fliegls and most importantly the Ropa is up there fully working with the fliegls loading in and the Ropa loading up the bulkers making the trek back to the AD Plant , we starting to get a mound back there already and the piston bully doing a cracking job on the pit , which has relieved 1 tractor from the pit to crack on with the other maize team , so it'll be a push on into the night until the weather turns late tonight !!!
