Its been a busy week at Frogmary with the boss away in Spain and main tractor driver on holiday too we started off the week trying to wrap up contract drilling and our own catch crop drilling, i spent all morning whilst waiting for seed unblocking coulters on the vaderstad after trying to drill oat seed that straw still in it, got going at 5pm for Anthony Jeans, 70 acres by 8pm then 50 acres for Steve Godfrey and back in the yard at 11.30pm just in time for chickens going at midnight 6 loads, back up at 5am to see the catchers finish and get ready for the next 6 loads to go at midday, the next house was cleared wednesday at 1pm but the last load was cancelled, very fustrating to put the house back together again for only one lorry load, these were finally cleared at 3am friday morning, have now cleared litter from all 3 houses and 2 are now washed, last one to wash monday, disenfect tuesday and spread shavings wednesday before getting houses ready again thurs/fri!

This year I got them on the 15 August as day old the picture was taken when they was about 6 weeks old ,which means this year we will have them about 125 days and will weigh between 5kg/7kg (11lb/14lb) we have had some weigh 19/20lb by growing them slowly the legs build up to take the heavy weight ,the place I buy them from kill the hens at 6 weeks weighing appox 3kg and take the cockerels on to 8 weeks and weigh up to 4 kg but are fed a high cost food I feed mine on my own wheat/barley mix after the first six weeks then slowly add a growers pellet which will put on 1lb per week . myself and a good mate hand pluck them ,we used to do 200 birds and supply 3 local butchers a few years back but that's a lot of work in a short time so only do the 50 now for friends and family

I think that's what I would like to build on my diorama after my new grain shed and robotic milking parlour, I talked to Paul from brushwood and says he won't build one as there isn't the quantity of chickens available to fill one. Nice pictures!

Spring Farm update

digestate handling solutions have arrived ready for the off, Joskin tanker with 12m trailing shoe, 60cu m nurse tank. Digester is now up and running, it's diet is increasing on a daily basis.

Managed to drill some oats for Wakleys and a new avenue of trees have been planted.
