Palgrave journey through the ages

Last sunday was one of those rare days off and I went along to a local vintage rally at Palgrave near Diss on the Suffolk Norfolk boarder the Ford and Fordson club was there with no less than 65 different tractors on the stand to which I took my latest addition a one owner local 1975  Ford 4000 with Ford 8602 DAB loader this tractor is all original apart from the cab roof. This tractor has been dry stored for the last 19 years even the cab cladding has no marks and the cab glass is all original from new all this tractor has ever done is load sugar beet and cut fire wood. The other tractor is my fathers 1968 Ford 5000 which has been restored from the ground up which he bought last year. Here is the pictures from the day of not just the Fords but other tractors as well although shame the weather didn’t play ball.

Thanks for the great comments guys you won’t believe that the son of the original owner of the 4000 that I bought it from had a quote for £3,500 to blast and repaint it!  It’s taken 44 years to look that and I just think he would have wrecked it thankfully he restored his Ferguson TEF 20 instead!

What a fantastic find Martyn. It must be the tidiest origional 1000 series I've seen, a credit to it's previous owner. I have to agree it would have been a crime to re paint it they are only origional once.

What an absolute beaut, 4000 that is, with fabulous patina, it took tears to look that good. It would be sacrilege to repaint that. Are those Fordson Major wheel weights?

Yes you are correct they came off the original owners Fordson E27N although he went for all the deluxe features for this tractor he used the the old major wheel weights and had new backing rings made up to fit the centres again I have left them on as these would have been on from new. Also the Dunlop rear tyres are the originals as well cracked but not bad.

Why the hell would you want to blast and paint that , it looks not far of new really for its age, few bits of rust i guess ? But hell , must have more money than sense maybe

Thankfully he stopped at hammerite the exhaust at least it protected it.

I went to the ploughing day at the other end of the A140 Diss road back in September which was good...…………….mind you I notice there was an 8210 at Palgrave but no sign of one at the ploughing event, or a TW15/ 8630  for that matter...…...kind of spoiled my day a bit.
