My tractor scrapbook

Recommended Posts

I recently found an old scrapbook that i kept as a boy. It was started in the late 70's and goes through to the early 90's and is basically two decades of adverts and articles from the farming press of the developing machinery sector during that period. Here's a few pages from it, if anyone's interested i can work my way through it (there's a lot!) but it is interesting how things have changed....one article talks about the increase in sales of big tractors, these being the likes of the Ford 7810, Case 956 etc...now 100hp is a run about!:D

Thanks lads, I will try and  get some more pictures today if i get chance. You're right Martin, looking back, machinery was more interesting then, the trouble now is that after finding this again, my list of ideas for future builds has just gone through the roof!:D

I found this to be fascinating reading and it just shows how the UK market has changed. They are quoting sales of these "high HP machines" as being 4368 units amounting to be around 25% of all tractor sales. Isn't that more than the entire market in 2018?

It also shows how the various brands have changed especially when talking about John Deere as the fourth placed seller and Fendt as a minor player, others that have also now disappeared, Marshall and even Ford, who were the market leader back then.

Thats true Ben, it's not until you look back at old articles and magazines that you realise just how much things have changed in a relatively short time. My father has just turned 77, when he was a boy he worked with horses and then progressed to a standard fordson and a David brown cropmaster, I think that the older generations have seen more radical changes and technological advancements in their lifetimes, not just in agriculture but in all areas of life, than any subsequent generations will ever witness
