  1. Yeah, think I caught it up the pub, a couple of the regulars had one last week up there
  2. I've been reaquainting myself with the art of soldering too Blake As for what pleased me today, despite being ill I've managed to have a bit of luck with the ladies after months of being single
  3. Got a chest infection and a cold, unusual for me at this time of year so off work and dosed up on steroids, antibiotics and Lemsip max strength
  4. I have to say I agree with Tris on this one. I still dabble in selling models but there's too many long established dealers out there who buy in greater quantities and will get better discounts than the small model dealer making it a very uneven and unfair playing field biased to the bigger boys/girls. Just look at the latest UH releases and all those upcoming ones along with those already available then you are going to have to spend a few thousand pounds just to stock a few of each available. In order to get the discounts you will also need to buy trade case quantities which can be anything from 2 to 12 models in UH's case. Given the current trading environment I think you're better off not taking on a project such as this for the time being
  5. Nope I have one too John as do 3 or 4 of our farming neighbours here. Have fitted them in our two spud carting tractors as well for this year
  6. Not home reared Tris, we only breed cross-breed cattle, not pedigree. The new boy is too full of attitude.......charged the crush and bust the gates open this afternoon when the vet came to test him he was supposed to be segregated from our cattle for a week until we had the test results but he's now in with 30 or so doing what we bought him for ;D This is the website for the Stabiliser Cattle Company who bred the bulls, explains all on there http://www.bigbeef.co.uk/
  7. We should be having a demo during the Autumn mate, got no work for it until then. We had a sad event at work yesterday in my absense, it appears that our remaining Limousin bull slipped whilst mounting a cow over the weekend and paralysed his whole backend so ended up being shot yesterday my boss straight away had a ring around to find another one and ended up going to pick him up straight away as our cows are bulling like mad at present so we can't afford to be a bull down. This is the fella he came back with, a 14 month old stabiliser bull from York direction, we now have 3 stabiliser bulls as that seems to be the way the meat market is heading, Morrissons having signed a contract to take meat from them
  8. A quantity of brass ready for a new project I have in the pipeline once I've finished catching up with the remaining orders I have outstanding
  9. I presume the Boston bit went ok as Chandlers dragged it to Kings Lynn for us and we picked it up from there. Yeah everything is hydraulically driven by the pumps on the machine, only the cart elevator is powered by the tractor hydraulics. Side view isn't too bad even with that lot their, don't really look out of that side window at the back too much anyway
  10. That was one meal for me Bill They are Rocket and were grown outside
  11. I never found that with the last one I had on demo, its the build quality and backup locally which is more of an issue
  12. Digging these up for my tea today ;D Planted about 8 weeks ago from memory
  13. Exactly, whereas I went to the auto electrical place in town and bought 2 rolls of heavy grade 7 core cable, 6 light units, 3 number plate lights, 3 junction boxes, bulbs, 3 packs of cable ties, 3 plugs, 2 front marker lights and 15m of 2 core cable for £230. So far I've done 2 of the three trailers I have to do and its taken 6 hrs which isn't even £50 in my wages
  14. Yeah I guess you could liken it to HMS We have a Puma CVX, MF 7485 and JD 7430 to come on demo in the autumn, maybe a Deutz as well but I'm not convinced yet on that one
  15. I totally agree Tris, in the past two weeks my job has been extremely varied and when people say that its unskilled then it really annoys me. I'll list below a few of the jobs I've done which certainly do not come under the driving a tractor up and down a field heading Completely rewired 14t AS corn trailer Completely rewired articulated straw trailer Replaced and refitted hydraulic brake lines to above trailer involving welding some new bracketry to it Welded stand back onto irrigation pipe trailer Layed out and joined 200 9m long irrigation pipes, working out where bends were needed and how to get them through hedges and around corners along with access points for spraying Spread 100kg/hectare of nitrate onto the spuds avoiding getting any on the margins to comply with stewardship schemes I would say that there was a fair bit of skill involved in those jobs, if we had got an electrical engineer in to do the first two I bet he'd have been paid a lot more than I was for doing it. We did employ an inexperienced student last year who had never worked on a farm before, I'm sure some of you will remember what I said about him at the time but we will NEVER employ another inexperieced one again if we can help it, he's half the reason we had to replace the potato harvester. some of the damage he inflicted is below: Reversed JCB into 415v fuseboard in grainstore Hit a car with JCB Ripped hoses off the corn trailer Damaged rear mudguard on 6910 Bent steps and broke front mud guard off 6810 Drove through narrow strip of standing corn to get to combine to unload Whacked elevator on potato harvester 5 times, bending it forwards at 45 degrees the final time Hit church wall with trailer, demolishing two hydrant markers, slashing tyre and buckling rim in process Running tractor out of diesel Bending mudguards on JCB I know all students aren't the same but we just can't take the risk again, the amount of extra stress he caused me on the potato harvester was unbelievable. We have a older lad coming with us this year who was carefully selected, a builder by trade but has helped us out before so we know how careful he is
  16. The diablo roller speed is manually adjustable on the control box, there isn't actually much that you can't adjust the speed of on there. I spent yesterday morning having a play around with the box (without reading the manual of course ) pushing buttons to see what they done if I wasn't sure which is how I found the programmed start/stop function which is brilliant in my mind and will save me needing to press many buttons within seconds of each other. It switches the following on in the order listed:- Digger share lowers Automatic depth Diablo drive Digger web Stars Second web Roller table (cleaner on box) When the Programme Stop button is pressed it just reverses the sequence, raising the share last of course. All that I have to start manually is the discharge elevator and the agitation if required, will certainly save a lot of fast finger work by myself and speed up the setting in and coming out of the rows. My JD is with us until early next year unfortunately.......just had a new fuel tank sender unit and some fuel pipes yesterday
  17. The control box, has more features, including a programmable start/stop function which will turn on or off all harvester functions in the sequence programmed in instead of having to do each function manually. The display screen, by scrolling through here the performance of each drive on the harvester can be monitored Wide angle camera already fitted to the machine showing the larger cleaning area
  18. I'd have to disagree there, the NH was streets ahead of the JD in every respect in my opinion Finally got my new potato harvester home this week, been having a look over it today and putting a couple of extras back onto it that had been taken off for transport. Its basically the same as the old one except this has more cleaning, more advanced electronics and a couple of optional extras that the old one didn't have. Hydraulically driven diablo rollers, an optional extra the old one didn't have, they should prevent the rollers bulldozing in more powdery soil Automatic elevator height adjustment, when activated will raise and lower the elevator according to load height, should help to minimise fall related bruising
  19. The Dexta is nice but a bit on the pricey side I think, RRP £64.99
  20. Picked up my new potato harvester this morning at Kings Lynn, dealer dragged it there from Boston and we swapped over at a hauliers yard, then went to a free sugar beet open day this afternoon
  21. I'd love to come on it, especially as I have the week of the 20th off work but the 4.5 hr journey for me is a bit of a killer
