CCF
FARM JOURNAL #14 Today, we finished cleaning up the farm for the year, and performed maintenance on the tractors. All of the tractors received an oil change, and fuel stabilizer was added to the fuel tanks. We put away any machines not needed for the winter, and switched attachments on those machines being used in the winter. The farm is all done for the year in terms of farm work, but there is always another non- farm related task to tend to on the farm. Here are the happenings down on the farm of the previous week: Planting several buckthorns in the larger pig pen: The field, now picked up and barren: We took a trip to the John Deere dealer to look at the prices for a new riding mower. Because the prices were a bit high for the farm's budget, we ordered a new axle for the lawnmower and fixed it: Taking the mower deck off the utility tractor, and attaching the snowblower: The local barn builder came and installed a small outdoor barn for the pigs. Half of the barn will be used for hay for bedding the pigs, and the other half will be used for the pigs on the warmer winter days: We installed the central heater in the barn, and extended the pig pen in the barn. Unfortunately, we can oly fit the gator in the barn now that the pig pen is extended: Mower decks and other odds and ends are stored up in the loft for the winter: With the winter coming, we needed a spot to store our lawnmowers. Because the pigs need the extra space in the barn, we bought a small barn similar to the pig barn, only with more insulation. The barn should be payed off from our winter plowing services: With the lights on: Snowblower now attached to the 4310, heading back to the barn for greasing: With the extra time this winter, we will be restoring and fixing several of our 'boneyard specials'. Hauling up the tractors with the 2010 crawler through the woods: Because we will be needing our John Deere front end loader tractor for hauling firewood next week, we did a quick welding job on the cylinder so we could use it. After the wood hauling is done, it will go to the dealer to receive a new piston: We parked all of our implements under the trees near the barn, the trees should shelter them from most of the rain: Emptying the diesel tank into the road grader. Fuel left in the tanks over the winter will go bad, so we are trying to use it up before winter: Changing the oil in the IH 5288: Filling the last load for the road up to the pig barn: Dumping and spreading the soil: Excavator and road grader stored off to the side of the barn: An employee took the mower out for a spin on the trails in the woods just as it was getting dark, and came across a doe and two fawns in the middle of the path. Fortunately he had his phone, and snapped a few shots: He was able to get within 15 feet of the deer before they ran off into the woods. The mower was then returned to the barn: Back at the barn. Fixing a wire for the light bulbs and filling up the fuel tank: Heading back to the lawnmower barn: While passing by Cider Hill Pond, we noticed a fair amount of water collected from rain storms: Packing up the barn. Machines used in the winter are parked near the front of the barn: An impressive fall sunset visible from the farm, a good way to end the day: Hate to say it, but that's all for this week folks! Next week's journal will focus on a summary of Cider Hill Farms' 2006 season.

CCF
yeah the next few ;D The next journal will focus on a summary of 2006, this journal will have some pictures from previous journals to describe the progress of the farm in 2006. There will be some ariel shots of the farm to compare to last year aswell. The next journal is the last fullsize journal of the year until April, the following journals will be "Mini Journals". The Mini Journals will be smaller than the regular size journals, and will only have about 10-15 pictures included as opposed to 20-30 pictures. You will have to wait until the next Farm Journal for a small list of potential Mini Farm Journals that you may be seeing over the next few months. If you have any suggestions for a Mini Journal topic, let me know and I will try to include it. Well done Tim... another CRACKING read.. I say that everytime.... but it's always true mate...
