Massey Ferguson 175/185

Recommended Posts

Long time ago since I did something with the hobby I guess, but great to see that the forum is still living good! Time for a bit more red, I thought. When I saw the announcement of the MO-Miniature MF 178 I decided that I needed to order 2, to make one just like a original 175 or 185 like my grandfather used to have on the farm for a small period. Unfortunately, only saw this on picture instead of real life..

To get started: the MO model is very nice, breakable, but highly detailed. I like the German cab that’s on it, but it isn’t often found on MF’s over here. Also the front axle is great in detail and has a very nice steering angle.

For the project, I started out cutting off the cab. With a very sharp Stanley knife, I was possible to remove it, unfortunately not without any damage from glue, but okay. Same was for the 4WD axle and the shaft from the gearbox. Since the model is completely made out of resin, damage is always possible. Therefor I carefully removed the wheels and cut the chassis down to create space for the 2WD front axle. 3649ACF7-CDF1-4B94-B175-A7152F32953E.thumb.jpeg.42481a1bbbe6c5d604373afb50fd4efb.jpeg

The axle that is being used, is from a UH MF 675 that I bought with damage. Wheels removed temporarily from a 1080 from UH, but need to find another set of them.

Today I’ve plastered the hood and the fenders, which were really a sweating job to get them off the casting without damage, and sanded it down. A nice layer of new MF paint will do the trick for the complete picture I guess.

Also widened the track of the model, because otherwise the front axle was a bit to wide.

i will keep you updated!

Very nice so far Niels, are you going to fit a roof on it like the one in my 185 picture below??

I think I Will build it completely without cab, just like it was in the brochure! But a very nice picture of a very tidy one!

Looking good Niels, this is the model that should have been made in the first place, it would have sold far more units that the original Mo Miniatur version

Thank you very much for the great comments!

After plastering, I’ve managed to paint everything and make some final work on it. As for the shields on the bonnet, I’ve made them out of plasticard.

Front weight is made detacheable, but I like it better without.

For now, I only have to wait for the stickers from Henri Walker and a 16 km/hour sticker, as a replacement for the German license plate in the grille.

i hope you will like it!

@Sean: the rear linkage, unfortunately is not able to move, but highly detailed. I’ve decided to keep it this way, but for the price, a working one, would have been welcome..

@timf: on the brochure of the 178 you will see the same ‘high’ air intake; so I think it can stay :)
