Been on a  "stop the rot" campaign on a mates Ap cabbed 7610, rot cut out of righthand inner wing and plated back in, top of step cut out, new piece bent up and welded back in and a new crossmember fabricated for the back of the cab under the lower back windows, that just needs a few holes drilling in it for the window clamps now and then it'll see a bit of primer, Step still wants straightening and a couple of cracked welds to repair on its mounting then theres a bit to cut out and plate up in the bottom of the righthand door before i get the wing and wheel back on. old cab crossmember shown...

Tidy work Paul!  For a cab that was always destined to spend its life up to the eyes in cow sh*t, effluent and fert dust it always seemed like they were never that well prepared for it from new!

  • Thanks 1

Thanks john, well when it comes to metal and playing with a welder i'm hardly a virgin :D but i know what you mean, the Ap cabbed tractors were a stockman special really, to be honest rest of cab is in good order, floor wants a clean off and a coat of red lead before the mat goes back but for a 32 year old cab its survived fairly well

Thought I had better have a catch up on this topic ,time/days just seem to be flying past at the moment . This is the base for Goody's oil tank that we got cemented and the path we dug out before I hurt my wrist , anyway with a lot of hard work from Mr Goodwin on the shovel feeding the mixer we got the pathway laid and I floated it up with my left hand as the right one was still out of action .

Back at Goodys we had to put oil feed pipe across his garden ,so because of my wrist problem and not being able to use my right arm for digging he had a mate of his bring this machine over one morning , what would have taken us 3or 4 hours to dig by hand was done in 15 minutes by this machine

ditch witch eh, our lot have just bought a load of those, so they can trench quicker in the countryside for our full fibre roll out, they claim it works out to less than £2 a meter with that, compared to £45 a m we pay the contractors with mini diggers  ect , and they have taken our own guys on to do it. and we can get a lot more laid in a day .

the day out looked great fun, did mr goodie talk you into buying anything ? new loader or similar :D .

Washed the volvo today.. well can now say yesterday. Picked what felt like the hottest day of the year so far.

It's been in need of a full exterior clean for a while now when I was back at work we laid a new yard for my bos with road plannings he then insisted to coat it in red diesel to seal it with a bomag roller. Save to say for a couple months the tyres on the Van's and cars where slick when leaving on a night. And the paint work was covered in tar spots.

So the volvo got

Tfr rinse

Iron-x (fall out remover)

Snow foam rinse

2bucket wash

Tardis wipe down

2bucket wash again.

Tango rinse

Dried

Polished and waxed

Trims brightened up

Wheels cleaned

Tyres slicked

Outside windows cleaned. I'll post some pics tomorrow.... well later on :) she scrubs up well for a old tank. 20200510_172034.thumb.jpg.4cd63ca4526cb1d4d51a1cbd83ecc22b.jpg20200510_172024.thumb.jpg.edd81a731cc798a9b1f567c8857be744.jpg

It was great fun driving around all day ,the light lunch was all right and there was coffee or tea all around the event to help yourself to and on the way home Mr Goodwin treated us all to a fantastic carvery . One of my farming mates that was with us on the day had bought a new farmall and loader of Goody a few months before ,so far he has not tempted me to change anything but you never know :)

The shed that I fatten up a few Christmas chickens in was a bit rotten at the back it also sticks out into my sons garden ,so to keep myself and my son busy /occupied doing this lockdown we took the back of and a section from each side and then started to rebuild it and my son has now got a slightly bigger garden for his children to play in

got my scaffold poles cut and up now, holes all drilled and eye bolts fitted ,did have an un enforced issue after the wife assisted me ,had to cut 1 m of the end of one ,so got her to hold the end being cut off, so it didn't drop on anything especially my foot, did the gentlemanly thing and shielded  her from the sparks, assuming shes got hold nicely, nope bloody thing drop and hits my toes, turn  around and shes got one hand right on the end, whilst turned away shielding  her glasses with her other hand, i don't think she had even noticed it had dropped :D luckily no damage on me toes , just got the 4 new eye bolts to fit next Friday in the wall, and the sails can go up ,garden done, also managed to get one side of guttering done on the piggery, but i have now run but  of matt black paint, so thats on order now.

After all the wet weather we had the ground soon dried out rock hard back in march so I had to quickly change the tines on the power harrow ,it was a job to find a company at the time that had tines in stock and also the lockdown was not helping ,anyway a mate of mine picked a set up from a company that he deals with and Mr Goodwin got me another set for my other power harrow , the tines are mainly made in Italy with Chinese steel so there could be a series shortage come harvest time

I started back in February doing some major alterations on my barn , we took off some of the big six asbestos sheets and replaced with some steel grain walling ,we also dug some holes inside to put in some additional posts to hold a fresh internal grain wall ,(that's how I messed up my wrist ) anyway I had a couple of my mates step in to help out and my brother called in when he could to help out  + my granddaughter helped out with the red oxide painting . A bit of the floor was breaking up so we ripped that out and re-laid it .

one of my mates that helped me on the barn asked if he could borrow the 5ton digger for a couple of days ,his next door neighbour said she would like to dig out the pond at the bottom of here garden that as a child she could remember playing in ,here father and grandfather had filled it in as they was afraid the children would fall in and not get out ,so my mate said yea no problem do that in a couple days over the weekend :D five days later after getting all this scrap out they started to shape the pond ,allow a bit smaller than the original plan it was a job they wished they had never started ,there was 22 bicycles , 2 mini sub frames ,car doors ,other car parts including 4 engines ,one sewing machine and as you can see loads more ~~~~;)
