Whats on your workbench???

Don't mean to cause offence to the owner, but to me it just looks like an explosion in a paint factory! -

Looking at that lot takes me back thirty odd years, back to a time when new models came out twice a year AND you could both afford and have the space to keep up with them Lovely collection!

You're right about the handbrake, about as much use as an ash tray on a bike, but that was worst on the Doncaster-built 74, 84,85 series, the German 56,s did have a stronger handbrake, but still not perfect! That's the trouble with the lovely quiet cab on the nash, you do get to hear a bit of 'box noise, not a problem in the Ford though....

I thought you needed that sort of tractor on a haybob nowadays, twin beacons included !! Actually, she is a good tractor, she's done just over 11000 hours and most of those will have been hard hours.Up until 8 years ago all the straw was led with her, 48 hestons on a load, and over the weighbridge she would gross out at around 24.5 tonnes. There's a groove in the end of the exhaust as when she was really working you could see a flame coming out! My biggest gripe is why Ford could not put a decent gearbox in them, compared to the 56 series Cases it is like stirring a hammer in a bucket of bolts. Time for my tin hat now!

real big-boys toys, might be just a bit too much power for our haybob!

Probably a bit controversial, but here goes, all of the Bradley Wiggens-es that seem to have appeared like a plague on our roads, especially at weekends. Riding two - and three - abreast on our narrow twisty roads is bad enough when you are following them in a car, but on a tractor, especially when loaded, you often have no choice but to sit behind them. The public are quick to condemn farmers for holding up traffic, and I do agree that there are some out there who blissfully carry on, seemingly unaware of huge the line of cars behind and never pull in to let anyone past, but hopefully these are in the minority. However, it seems that once on a bike then courtesy for other road-users disappears. Yesterday, amongst the many that I encountered (like I said, plague!), I got stuck behind one cyclist and followed it for a good two to three miles before it eventually turned off onto another road, they were obviously aware that I was following and because of the road unable to pass, but no attempt was made to pull in to let me pass and get on with my job. The only compensation was that on this occasion it was a Bradley - ette We all have to share the roads, but courtesy must come from all sides. Anyway, rant over, now, car park attendants and the wife's recent parking ticket for being ten minutes late back to the car!!.......................

That's some very impressive kit there! Makes the one that was cutting where I was leading straw from yesterday look small !

Apparently its not - uncommon Martin on Fords with a good few hours under their belts and that have done a lot of heavy shaft work, it happen to me on a 7810 that I was power - harrowing with and I've heard of several others since then that have done it as well. That's the beauty of classics though, relatively simple to fix as long as you are fairly handy with the spanners

Northumberland is lovely David, I keep telling the wife if we won the lottery that's where we'd buy a farm, but as we don't play it I'm not holding out much hope! Never seen a Quadtrac before, not even at a show, so it was nice to see one, just wish it had been closer to the road so I could have got a photo. Alnwick Gardens is a wonderful place and the kids love it every time we go, kept an eye out for the Duchess, but unfortunately never saw her.

Day off today with the family, had a ride up to Alnwick Gardens, never seen as many people in my life, wouldn't mind their takings for the day Funny, in the photos it looks deserted! Lots of combines rolling, and between Hexham and Rothbury saw for the first time in the flesh a Steiger Quadtrac cultivating stubble
