  1. Was in auction at Scotish National tractor show at Lanark in September last year (2011) with a flat offside front tyre. Don't remember if it sold on the day or not, but it had been in the auction a few years earlier down at Newark Tractor show, in November 2009 if i remember rightly but could have been 2008.
  2. They'll come out Sean, The centre's in the 7920 wheels are held to the main wheel casting by 3 little tabs on the back of the centre through into the body of the main wheel casting, they prise out carefully with a fine screwdriver, once out cut the remains ot the tabs off and hey presto, Bobs your auntys live in lover! I didn't think they came out at first either, but learned that they did from good friend and talented builder, the late Phil Harsine (aka Starbrush) when he'd used the same centre's on a couple of his JD builds to good effect.
  3. Very nice! Would look great yoked up to a drag chopper Did you know that the wheel centre's out of Britains 78/7920 JDs is seperate to the wheel casting itself, and once a pair have been removed from the 20 series, they fit into the Siku wheel, giving a Cast iron Heavy centre to put on a classic Deere such as these Here a pic of a Siku wheel with the addition of the Britains centre disc.
  4. The 6 cylinder 10/60 looks a bit of a beast from your pic David, some 6 cylinder conversions look as rough as a bears arse when you get up close But them that are done right by some one who has a bit of pride in their work often look an sound spot on
  5. Fanastic pics bud,yet again it shows you have a loaded camera and you ain't afraid to use it!! Although Poppy orange brigade (Nuffield club) bit of a let down, apart from 6pot conversion there nowt that jumps out and says look at me! then if you look at some pics earlier in the thread, other clubs encourage people to bring a bit of summat diffrent
  6. Some pics of some of my trailed foragers that use the pick up reel off the Claas 695 forager, The Kidd multi chop, John Deere, and JF 1050 with engine use the complete header off the Claas, the Kidd one having been narrowed abit when i built them some years back. The New Holland 525 is by an unknown builder but has used the Claas reel and auger as does the claas 75 built by Keith Edwards, and both have headers built up out of plastic card, Lastly the Reco Mengele flywheel, custom built by the Late great builder Phil Hairsine aka Starbrush, which he built for me as a 30th birthday suprise 4 years ago, but he used the Reel and auger out of Siku's John Deere self propelled header, and narrowed them down to suit. Hope Pics give you some ideas Olly, and good luck with the build .
  7. Britains old orange/green drag choppers were as said by various people who work with or for Britains at the time it was based on the JD 3400 series but Britains weren't granted a licence to produce it in jd colours or name so it became a generic trailed harvester. Some of the choppers that i have built using the Britains as a base include Claas 60/62, JD3765, Kidd multichop, JF1050 with engine on, Claas 62 with engine on and theres others that have been built and are in the collection too, but they all use the pick up reel and auger out of a Britains Claas 695 self proppelled, some the headers were used too but others have had a proper header built out of plasticard. some of my drag foragers pics are posted on a thread on here Classic (Valley Contracts) silage Scenes under model farms and layouts Hope it a help
  8. Fair comment that Bill , Its abit like the 485/4100 Leylands, a Bathgate built skid unit, but then converted to equal wheel 4wd by County, even though the names Roadless and County are linked directly to Ford based conversions, both firms worked with other manufacturers of the time too making some rarer and collectable machines
  9. Some good photo's there bud Have you any Claas trailed in your archives?
  10. Brilliant collection of pics from the show David, most of the talent in taking a photo is the person operating the camera! Well done, and it looks again as ever that Newby had something for everyones taste. From what i can remember, Phillipa's Pink Fergy was painted up that way because thats how she wanted it, as well as having that she has a V8 muscle car/ Hotrod and is something to do with Warton Stock Car/ Banger Racing club (last time i was there a semi retired Leyland 285 was earning its keep on track duties)
  11. Cheers 390T and BOB, i'll see what other pics i've got to put up I took 1/16th leyland/tarrup combo to toytrac year before last Barry, and Marshall 100/JD engine on trailed a couple of years before that, old classic choppin could be this year..... although work is slowly starting on 1/16th forestry..... time will tell what appears in october Thanks for the comment though
  12. Seems to be a good few Marshall men up your way too Bill, some nice examples, The quarter scale one very nice!
  13. Funny that Bill, your steam men like to run a mix of transporting rigs, most down here run ERF or Foden, along the family tree related back to the good old days of steam and steam haulage. Your right about Fred, Just a true character and legend!
  14. Cheers Shane, maize field is actually 1/76th scale (model railway Hornby 00 size) and is a series of kits made by Busch for self assembly, there are 10 stalks to a strip, and each stalk requires its corns painting, then head coating in flock before painting the strip base to resemble the seed bed. A 1/32nd scale kit would be alot easier to work with but no one does one.... yet! Each box of 10 strips gives you a 4" square when put together so to cover a big area its alot of kits and alot of work
  15. Here's a few pics from previous displays that i've done at various shows, mostly featuring Leyland and Marhall tractors but all with the trailed forager theme, The Valley woodlands have been a bit quiet of late but progress will have to start on a new transportable layout and a couple of the maize monster starting to gobble the Valleys maize crop on my mums layout Hope you enjoy
  16. Have a good day Bill, There you're right though there is something about the smell of a steamer, and the fact that most are never too far away from a cold pint of best bitter!! There gets a good turn out of steam over in Yorkshire and the late legend Fred Dibnah lived 45mins from us, a great bloke with a true passion for his hobby
  17. Looks like a good turn out of steamers Bill, we get a few at some of our local rallies down here but not to the quantity you've got up there
  18. Hi Justy, no the NH 2305 isn't one of my builds, it came to the Valley from Holland or Belgium by way of David Purdue (DBP Models) who i bought it off last October, David had the Grass header custom built by Brian O Reilly as the chopper came with maize head, that tucked away in storage just in case we get called upon at the back end to cut a bit o maize
  19. Here's Valley Contracts classic 32nd scale silage fleet, Some times we escape from the woods to chop a bit of grass! Ford 7810 with Claas mower conditioner, Ford 6640 with Claas liner 770, New Holland 2305 self proppelled chopper, chased by, Ford 7810 x2 with 8 ton Marshall trailers, Ford 6640 with an 8 ton Fraser trailer, Spare 8 ton Fraser and spare 6 ton single axle Marshall for if farmer lending a hand, or hiring in an extra tractor, County 1174 on buckraking duties. Reco flywheel drag chopper parked in shed in case of breakdown.
  20. Great conversion Dominic, that looks like an imber cab on a uh valtra with a 6 cylinder bonnet on. grand job ;)
  21. Thanks for the comments guys glad you appreciate my work. Yes Wil UH stuff is fragile but with a bit of care they aren't too bad plus the odd bit that gets knocked off and glued back on helps create the weathered and battered and abused look Some of the older stuff a bit more character about it Sjonnie, and thanks Lexi glad you like! No trick photography Chris, all my weathered tractors are done by hand with Games Workshop (citadel) colour washes, and solid colours. the washes are like really thinned paint or more like more thinner than paint then as you brush it on it leaves a film that as it evaporates leaves the colour behind, the more coats the stronger the colour
  22. Freshly back from the woods for a bit of an overhaul is this county super 4 tractor, it hasn't had an easy life, along with the other major based tractors down in the valley but being 4wd is a real bonus over the other tractors in the fleet . Tractor just a standard super 4 but with the addition of a full set of wheel weights and a rollbar for if things get a bit silly on some of the steeper banks, the winch is a general purpose skidding winch thats 3 point linkage mounted, of no particular manufacture, but built out of plasti-card and given a used and abused look. A couple of pics and more to go up when overhaul complete, Hope you guys like it!
  23. Here a couple more pics of beasts that have resided in the valley, the 1174 went to Jas P Wilson at Dalbeatie, but the 6400 valmet still roaming the woods and earning its keep
  24. Aah well Tris ours went to somewhere around Bruton, so there could now be another around that area It had spent all its life in forestry locally before it appeared in the Valley , the reverse drive handy for forwarding logs out of the woods with a Botex crane trailer but not sure what role it will play for its new owners. Britains did a limited edition of there valmet in claas green..... I'll have to keep my eyes open and see if i can find a mint boxed version for the collection
