Walter Derwent's Harvest Action

The Tractor Twitcher

Aha, you might have captured some of his machinery then? From the photographs I have seen he has an TX 68 combine (or TF, not sure) and for certain a nice JD 3350 and Claas Axion.

Looking forward to your other harvest photographs. Shame you weren't able to get the 5288.

I have a feeling I know where he's based Niels, but I don't think i've photographed any of his machinery thus far on my travels. Still planning on photographing Paul's 2wd 5288 in due course and i've a little....rather long trip planned tommorow evening to see a neighbour of his who has an equally impressive fleet. Everything crossed! :)

You mean the man with the sheds packed full of Deere's?

I have indeed been to visit a fleet of Deeres up in Paul's direction this evening Niels. One of two big fleets of older John Deeres located up the North East coast. There's Ian Clayton's fleet which was featured in CT a number of years ago which i've still to visit, but hope to in the not too distant future. He also has a 2wd International 5288 and a huge shed full of old John Deeres. Whilst the yard i've been to tonight also includes some real rarities and interesting classics one of which I captured in action tonight. :)

Time for a long over due update from my harvest travels. Whilst I haven't photographed anywhere near as many combines as I managed last year i'm still really pleased with machines i've discovered and photographed on my voyages....and i'm still hopeful of sneaking a few more in before it's all cleared.

Going back to photographs I took on 11/08/2013 and one of my favourite discoveries from this year. A combine that has been very close to the top of my "hit list" for a number of years now. A New Holland TF78 Elektra. I found this pristine example working on a farm above the village of Langtoft on the Yorkshire Wolds.

The TF 78 is a very nice machine. Haven't seen one before with such a small header though!

Fantastic looking combine Niels, great to have finally found one in action. :)......That's nothing, i've photographs of a 780 Lexion to follow soon with a V750 header up front. :)

I saw that on your Facebook page. I know of a Lexion 770 with a C660 header! Sometimes it really makes you wonder... Looking a the previews on your Facebook page I can't wait for the full set on here 8)

Now that is an unusual combine / header combination. When I first discovered the 780 across the road from where I now live I was initially disappointed to see it fitted with such a small header. However the more I look back through the photos I took of it i'm delighted to have found a combination different to the norm. There can't be many farmers specify a 780 fitted with that size header. :)

Here's my final harvest find from my voyage on the 11/08/2013. A trip to see my good friends, the Etty family and their Claas Lexion 570+ Terra-Trac in the fading light. Operating alongside their combine was their glorious sounding John Deere 7710 and brand new DRT trailer.

7710 8)  8)  8)  8) 8)  8)  8)

It's certainly a favourite amongst all of the operators on the farm it lives, and comes with one heck of a sound track. After my most recent trip out i've now managed to capture 7610, 7710 and 7810 from that particular John Deere range this year. :)

Thank you for the encouragement Joe. I certainly quite like the idea of a record of some of the photographs i've taken in the medium of a book. I'd love to capture some older Laverda's at work as i've yet to find any on my travels....modern badge engineered McCormick aside. Hoping to be out tommorow evening on the harvest trail if I can get finished work in good time. :)

That was until 12/08/2013 when from my bedroom window I could see a combine working in the distance. Understandabley curious about discovering and photographing my first combine close to my new home I set out on foot and a couple of miles later I was in the presence of this machine....

A classic era Laverda 3700 knocking down this field barley close to the M1 motorway. Another make and model crossed off the "hit list." :)

Moving onto the 14/08/2013 for my next trip out with my camera to see a good friend of mine near York. Those that follow this topic and my tractor photographic thread will know I have spent quite a bit of time over the past few years chasing after this particular fleet with my camera. In the past two years the tractor fleet has been condensed but upgraded to two main front line machines in the shape of Massey Ferguson 7475 and 6480 tractors with an older 3085 acting as back up. It was decided prior to this year's harvest to replace the combine which up until this year had been a tidy D plate Claas Dominator 98s. Keen to complete the Massey line up, a Cerea was sought after. However an immaculate and very low houred 40RS came up for sale and my friend simply couldn't resist it.

I had hoped to to discover a lot more combines to photograph on the evening of the 14th. Unfortunately on this occasion the Sun decided to take up permanent residence behind a belt of cloud and the lighting as a result became rather poor. However just before I pointed my car back down the motorway I did manage to sneak a few pictures of this brand new Claas Lexion 650.

Continuing my harvest travels this time from the evening of 16/08/2013. Comfortabley the shortest journey i've ever had to make to see a combine working. This montrous 2 week old Claas Lexion 780 was working quite literally outside my front door, across the road from where I now live. Unusually the big Claas was fitted with a tiny V750 header. I was told by one of the young chaps driving one of three Claas Arion tractors supporting the 780 that the extra horse power was required for the slopes it operates on, and the much smaller table was specified for the straw.
