jdc
This on Twitter today - never seen straw picked like this before. He reckons he's getting 80 - 90% of it and doing around 50 - 60tph. Compost it and spread it later. Sounds a lot better than trying to incorporate it.
BC
Now that is a cunning idea John.
Jdeere6910
Interesting photo John, I wonder how well the wagon is taking having to pick up wet muddy straw?
catkom3
Isn't that an Aberdeen registration Bill,SV used to be our Kinross reg years ago Regards Joe.
Tractorman810
: don't start him off joe  clever idea i guess, clearly seems to work well going by the figures you quoted john ,other than being a bit heavier than grass???, it doubt theres much difference in lifting the straw to grass
Gav836
They actually re-baled a lot of it on a neighbouring estate to here last year, 20t and acre of straw is a lot to get rid of. It actually isn't very muddy at all when it comes off the carrot beds so is able to be reused if baled.

Lord Ferguson
Interesting John.. I wonder if the adtantages really justify the capital cost of the equipment though .. bearing in mind the expensive of picking it up... turning it regularly (assuming you don't just leave it to 'compost' iteslf) .. and then re-distribution with more expensive kit
archbarch
its alot of straw to deal with, the best way ive seen is to put pigs on the field they love it
Deere-est
Presumably this chap does grass with his machine too so the extra work makes this side of the operation more cost effective. Would the chopper unit still be in situ or is it just picked up and composted as is? Also, is it blended with other materials to make the compost? Certainly seems a damn sight easier to take it away completely in this way that's for sure.
