Managed a couple of hours this week of a night after work with Gemma to try and get job pushed on abit anyhow with Gemma taking on the top coats of the out sides of the doors, I set about re connecting the linkages to the refitted spools and Quadrant for the main lift and also to the auxiliary for the tipping pipe... Anyhow things were going well until I found the spindles in the hydraulic unit appeared to be seized .. further investigation required so without further a do I whipped the half dozen 1/2" bolts out holding top cover on, to find the problem of a cracked and distorted spindle that the main lift operates off and this in turn jamming the auxiliary, anyhow a bit further investigation found the cam that operates the fork in Draught position of the hydraulics also cracked and broke.... With Gemmas help to compress the spring whilst unscrewing the cap on the spring we had the parts on the bench.... After a chat with a fellow fan of blues it's a common fault for the cam below to break and cause the spindle to bend... Anyhow a bit of web ferriting has located the bits that are required and are in the process of being ordered.... Meanwhile attention turned to a bit of pipe bending to remake the two conduit tubes that carry the wires to the rear lights, this time out of stainless to stop any further rot.... Next job will be to get some dark blue on the ammased new rear linkage...

Been a busy hour or three with Gemma today, pushing the 472 a bit closer, still waiting on a delivery of bits to put the hydraulic cross shaft back together but that by the by, rear window glazed and new seals fitted, doors hung on 2 new and 2 refurbed hinges then fitted with new handles and latches before fitting the original glass in a new set of rubbers, Gemma almost a fully fledged tractor cab glazer now... Then she set about cleaning engine off, it's not seeing paint yet that will be once she's seen a few hours on the clock to know she not dripping from any seals or gaskets...then finally after a new air induction hose and a fresh air filter element,  the side panels, front panels and side grilles got reffited, a bit more wiring to do now for washer pump and wires need going forwards to tank sender and headlights and horn but she starting to look like a tractor again

A cheeky couple of hours spent between jobs at work with one if the old hands that I was apprentice to back in the late 90s, anyhow we got talking about the rear light mounting pods for the tractor, and how hard good ones are to find, anyhow a *** packet sketch and a bit of tin found and after a nip and tuck and a bit of the blue light we have a prototype light pod, dimensions are almost where it needs to be, so after a few holes and a bit of satin black paint it should be a usable thing that won't look too out of place to the original rubber ones ...

Cheers John, it's funny what goes on when the workshop foreman is away for a few hours 🤣... I know they not the original but will be pretty close in appearance so reckon they will do. I'm not restoring a show winner, just a safe usable tractor 👍

Thanks for the link Joe, 👍 think that needs a bit of investigation, being stainless I'll have to give the pods a coat of etch primer before anything once they had a good rub over with some scotchbrite to get the paint to stick....

Thanks Joe, I've given the first pair a coat of satin black but I've ordered a tin to try as think I can improve on the design a little bit over these pair

Got the prototype light pods finished off and fitted today to see what they are like, I think a couple of little tweeks would help the job a little bit so will progress with a second pair and try Joe's rubberised paint...but anyhow lights wired up and after a bit of messing about with a new flasher unit we have almost a full complement of working lights just a headlight bulb out on dipped beam and the number plate light to wire up once the roof goes back on

Bit more done... She starting to look like a tractor again now.... Roof temporary refitted to measure up for the internal template for headlining, wiper motor wired up and works off the switch panel, bonnet hinges repaired and bonnet refitted, linkage parts top coated in dark blue, hopefully pick the bits up on Friday for rebuilding the hydraulics so hopefully by weekend she be mobile again.

Had thought originally Sean  but going to leave it as is once finished, aim is to get her to a safe and usable state that's tidy enough to put in a rally field but not bothering if she gets clarted up

That was the original plan Sean but as the blue got splashed about it was covering fairly well so thought we'd carry on. So far the only really serious mechanical issue has been with the hydraulic selector fork spindle, but that's why I've held off painting the engine, as feel once she's been hot a few times there be a few oil leaks..... It's 6 of one and half dozen of the other but what we've lost on the swings we've gained on the roundabouts, to a purist she never be concours but as long as she's safe on the road, she in a hell of a healthier state now than when we picked her up at end of last December, she ain't perfect but she'll see another good few years now

Hydraulic unit back together after collecting some quality used parts off fella I bought tractor off, he generously offered them as a freebie under a bit of warranty, actually he didn't know the cam and spindle were cracked so said it's only fair he supplied the bits anyhow re assembled and given a lap of the yard before taking her to the top of the lane.. first 1/4 mile of proper road under her wheels now so can now build on that and see how she goes

Cheers John, aye she doesn't look bad next to the 804, Gemma's brother on with a set of decals for me so will look different again once they are fitted, need to order a few bits up for inside the cab, gaiters for the handbrake and hand clutch as well as gearsticks, the check straps for the doors, a handle for the 4wd lever, a set of mirrors for when Gemma's painted up the mirror arms, a fresh grille and then it's mostly little bits like the rubber buffers for the bonnet and side panels, interior decals and a few fresh pins to refit the linkage once I've welded the latch up. She didn't seem bad on the road though, bit bouncy on front end but a set of wafers will sort that, I'm not convinced that the orbital is 100% for the steering as it's a bit vaguer than the 804 maybe a bit like Matt's 802 was when I got that .. time will tell though once she seen a bit more road..

Progress been a bit slow of  late, lack of time to get up the yard due to other commitments and work but been putting spade work in to gathering up and ordering up a few more bits to push her on a bit more once next weekends Borderway show is out the way, good bit of news is that the old reg number was still active on the DVLA website and after a bit of form filling in and a cheque for £25 a modern up to date V5c has arrived this week so she'll carry her original reg number once a plate has been cut to mount the reg plate and number plate lamp on.... Original plough lamps are getting rare and also a bit pricey but after a chat with a fellow follower of the brand's found that Durite do a lamp that is almost very similar and readily available so a pair been duly put on the shopping list to finish the electrical work... decals are now an on going project with Gemma's brother Mick who has his own vinyl graphics company is using the originals to copy a new set, after seeing his work on a couple of Ford's and a County that have all been rosette winners at our local rally I'm in no doubt that the set he makes will be close enough to original to look right. 

Anyhows more updates when I get chance to get a bit more done, with the local Christmas tractor run only 5 weeks away I not sure if I get her finished in time but will see how things pan out over the coming weeks

Managed a quick couple of hours up at the shed this afternoon between errands and last minute bits, got front grille fitted, new original spec light grey enamel exhaust, new temp sender unit fitted, and mirror arms cleaned off and given a couple or three coats of satin black hammerite..... Not much but made a start at getting going on her again after almost 2 months of not making any serious progress.... To be fair the 465 started first turn after not being run since start of November, 472 wound over a bit but then went without too much bother...
