Standen Unistar 2400 Destoner

Recommended Posts

Here are a few photos of my latest project.  I am building a Standen Unistar 2400 (3 row) destoner/separator in time for spring potato planting.

The bulk of the model is made from Plasticard. The steering wheels on the Destoner are from a UH Valtra C120.  The separator stars  are made from star washers.  I have made two of the 6 star rollers so far.  My version of the Destoner will have will have a front roller, then a front web, followed by 6 star rollers.  Then there will be a under web from the 3rd star roller back.  My model won't have the Vari-web or the boulder box.

I never had a Unistar but I did have a Uniweb, looking good so far, only thing I’ll say is the corners of the front frame should be more rounded, should be a simple tweak :)

Yes from the parts manual it looks like the front frame should be one long U shape tube.

After trying to bend Plasticard tubes with and without heat and snapping them I decided to cut them at 45 degrees.  While it is not perfect, I think it gives a decent representation.

after being on the road for work for most of the last 6 weeks I finally got time for a bit more work on the project today.

I have decided to go with 10 sets of separator stars instead of having a front web.

I have also added the rear elevator along with front side disc.

main items left to finish are the under webbing and the webbing for elevator.

the model is pretty much complete now, just have to build the webs.

I have added the first coat of primer, so fingers crossed should be ready for this spring.

all of the side panels now open.  the rear steering axle works smoothly as well.
