  1. I'm not sure I'd stick a 16 year old on a 300hp+ machine myself - but, yes, at this rate he'd only just break even on a 10 hour day - but if he stretches to a 12hr day then he's still pocketing 75 per day (or 6.25 an hour - just over min wage for an adult). And he's getting some great experience driving big kit. So I'd still go for it.
  2. I may be missing something but I'm not sure what the fuss is about - it sounds pretty reasonable to me. The lad is getting 38.50 per hour and taking home 15 per hour. that sounds a lot more than min wage and what i got at the age of 16 about 15 years ago (2.70 an hour I think). That leaves him 23.50 for diesel per hour or 36 litres per hour which if anything sounds pretty thirsty for a modern tractor. I'd make hay while the sun shines as I doubt many 16 year olds are on 16/hour today.

I'd never appreciated the range of rear mirror options that existed on these either....but a quick search on Google reveals all appear to be valid, plus a few more! My preference is for the big chunky option. Lets hope they stick some good, big tyres on this model as well.
  4. Does anyone make a 1/32 artic lorry with a grain body trailer? Ideally appropriate for a UK spec.
  5. Sorry - missed the bit about quadtrac. Here is a pic of the Britains version from the german toy fair http://www.traktorenwerk.de/Fotos/Nuernberg2011/BR42552.JPG If you are just after tracks for a conversion, you could prob pick up the old version of the model pretty cheaply now.
  6. If you look at g&m website they have pictures of both. The Ertl has a full width bar at the back but doesn't have the large square red and White chevron marker boards which the Britains has at the back and front of the machines. The Britains ones are also cheaper!
  7. I did a comparison at G&M this morning between the Britains and Ertl Prestige Case wheeled machines and to be honest, I couldn't see many differences...one has duals and one singles, the marker boards are different but appeared to be the same use of plastic on the body and wheels etc and the different shades of red seemed to be consistent. I'm after the NH version but I'm not going to spend the extra cash on the imported Ertl model and just buy the cheaper Britains model and then fit dual wheels to it.
  8. A few things from G&M open day this morning: - UH Claas loader with forks - UH Kuhn plough - Latest red Britains land rover Absolutely loads of new stuff arrived in. As I was leaving a guy walked in and said to Graham "One of everything that's new in"....I reckon that will be the best part of 7-800 quids worth!
  9. Some of the vari-width ploughs (which I think that Fendt has on the back) can be opened up to 20inch furrows (from a more traditional 12-16inch furrows) which can confuse things further (i.e. a 5f plough at 20 inch spacings is equivalent to an 8f at 12inch spacings).
  10. There's a load of older models and bits and pieces tucked away as well that I dont think usually make it to the shows. I think pretty much anything you see is available for sale - possibly even the stuff in the display cabinets!

I wonder why it doesn't have any wing mirrors? And the front indicator stalks look a bit long. But everything else looks pretty good I think. Does anyone know if this will be available in Blue as well as Brown?
  12. Is there much difference between the Ertl and Britains JDs?
  13. Nice upgrade. It's amazing what a difference a new set of rubber can do to any model.
  14. Hi Does anyone know what are the differences, if any between the Britains models and the Ertl Prestige models - do the prestige have greater detail or are they just more expensive as they are imported from the US? e.g. the new CaseIH Steiger 600 is approx £25 from Britains (with singles tyres) or £45-50 if you buy the Ertl Prestige model (with dual wheels)....£20 seems a lot to pay for 4 extra wheels if that is the only difference! Also - anyone happen to know the diameter of the wheels on these artic models? I'm thinking that a better set of Siku duals could fit well - but not sure if they would fit under the wheel arches.
  15. liking the county a lot. What sort of grass mat is that?
  16. Looks really good and nice to see a ford appearing! Particularly like the old Volvo's as well. A couple of queries: 1. Is the wheat made from a doormat? 2. What do you make your long grass from - very realistic? 3. What is the material you use for the short grass around the yard - also very realistic?
  17. Here are a couple of pics. It isn't (or meant to be) 100% accurately built (i.e. an exact replica) - just looking to create something half decent for a new layout slowly starting to take shape in the attic. I think I've also got some of the proportions a bit wrong for a timber framed barn - it should probably be less deep with a more steeply pitched roof! Any photos of the brass and tube hinges?
  18. Darn it - I was in a model aeroplane shop earlier today and looked around for something that could work but didn't see the pin hinges - should have posted on here first!
  19. I'm creating a traditional East Anglian black, weather boarded barn with a set of huge barn doors. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I could use as hinges for these? They are aprox 17.5cm high and 6.5 cm wide....
  20. Is that the new replicagri one or a different one?
  21. I worked for Velcourt one summer about 10 years ago and can confirm they are definitely a UK company. They have (well used to and sounds like they still do) an agreement with Case to buy all their pulling and harvesting power from them - in return for some pretty hefty discounts - I guess this might have broadened to the whole Case New Holland line up. Road transport laws in the UK mean that max weight of tractor, trailer and load cannot exceed 24t...so most uk trailers are either 12 or 14t locally built. Have a look at http://www.richard-western.co.uk/ http://www.baileytrailers.co.uk/tbrange.htm There are some chaser bins used but they still seem pretty unusual - just the very biggest farms.
  22. Replicagri stuff sounds good value. Any sign of anything new or unannounced at Sima in 1/32?
  23. Any news on new models from this so far...maybe news on the new Lexion model in 1/32?
  24. I think I'd have to go for: 1. Ford 7710 - absolute classic and love the fact that the whole scale of the machine is based on the size of a Britains rear wheel 2. Chafer sprayer 3. Fiat 880 with half tracks 4. Cambridge rolls - love the simplicity and the fact that they do sound a little bit like the real things when you use them 5. Ford FW-60 - iconic machine when I was a child and very pleased they released it - just wish I had bought the double wheeled version from Ertl as it looks even more impressive Most wanted: 1. Deutz dual wheels all round with bright orange hubs 2. A working powerfarm TW35 - it seemed revolutionary when I was a child even though it was in fact quite rubbish! 3. the old MF combine 4. Potato harvester - loved the way it all worked 5. Round bale sledge with the special pick up attachment Least wanted/impressed: The 'realistic engine sound' on the big MFs or more accurately, a small piece of clicking plastic on the rear axle - utterly rubbish, even as a child.
