Steve P
Yes we have to remember we are looking at forthcoming releases from a large scale model/toy producer and not the lastest gems from a precition specialised model maker, i think UH do a pretty good job on getting there models as accurate as possible but they and other firms like SIKU and Britains could never hope to match the detail and quality of specialist low volume producers. I am pleased personally to see pretty good models available at affordable prices, they are not perfect "i for one would like to see some front mudguards on the 8830" but i think they are good enough to please most collectors. I agree.... it's easy to knock something you don't know too much about... but having seen the process it's pretty complex... and, of course, done to a price and a time. I only thank goodness that the likes of Brian Norman, Dave Perdue, Martyn Reeve and even Doc Sewel and Chestnuts Miniatures don't bang them out like UH do... I'd be overdrawn at the bank within days :D Long live UH .. and lets not forget that their parts give a lot of casual and semi professional conversionists a way to earn a good living too
MuirHillyBilly
Not sure I've seen a scratch built County look as detailed as that UH County to be fair, and I've owned a few. They are probably more accurate though.
FordTractorCrazy
Not sure I've seen a scratch built County look as detailed as that UH County to be fair, and I've owned a few. They are probably more accurate though. sorry Lee, i get a bit annoyed with what you said here above... it is time you check this link out - : http://www.fordtractorcrazy.com/v2/county.php , you'll find the same County scratchbuilt by Dave Purdue, but then completely how it should look and with a detailed 3-point hitch.. UH isn't capable (and still be competitive) to achieve such level of accuracy. I definately am very happy with my DBP's that in my opinion are the best accurate models available. Also Scaledown made some kits of County's that are hard to top when looking at the Detail put into them, and Autodrome's 1454 is another great model that i dont see UH do better... (and really, i rather hope they dont try as well.. shelves getting full, pockets getting empty..)
MuirHillyBilly
Not sure why you are annoyed I'm entitled to my opinion and if you read my post I said the detail was better not how accurate it was. Details is the finer points, the grille, the decals, the paint finish, the lights, the engine detail- I feel these are better on the UH one which is kind of obvious since they have a high value production line I expect. If you read my post you would also see that I acknowledge the accuracy of some scratch builds are better in terms of scale, layout and things been where they should be. FordTractorCrazy
Sorry Lee, reading sometimes gives misunderstandings.. i do sometimes get annoyed when UH models are being named as the best things out there, while there are talented scratchbuilders that can do an equal or better job like DBP... Our understanding of the word "detail" clearly differ... i personally also have an issue with the company UH and their ways, but that has nothing to do with this and should be kept out of this topic atleast... MuirHillyBilly
No worries mate and sorry if my reply seemed a bit harsh. I certainly don't think UH are the best out there, Weise are better of the big manufacturers in my opinion (don't have awful rear hitches for a start) and having owned many scratchbuilds in the past I certainly appreciate the finer qualities of them. They are probably more accurate though. i now as we all seem to be allowed an opinion heres mine. detail and accuracy go hand in hand does the uh model have representative machined faceplates underneath detailed hex boltheads around the gearbox axles engine e.t.c authentic linkage i think not well on a brighter note we are no longer building fulltime just finnishing off what we promised people and for myself and if we feel like it maybe an occasional show also for very good freinds not many of them have struck a few of them of that list (glad to have got that of my chest ) working full time now thank god
