I was just looking at that today actually, it looks too new. The tracks are beginning to pick up some dust from the stone spray. I’d definitely like to do the exhaust, I’d just like to get it right

...or you could just say the old exhaust had got very rusty and you've had a new one fitted as per one featured in new Classic Tractor?

It's nice to see that Claas, always liked that shape of Challenger.  Would be very nice to see a re release of them, unlikely though.

This last week we have had a 6 meter Amazone Catros on demo, we have managed to use this to pull down the ground behind the Tiger ready for drilling. Impressed with the roller on the back.

Simon also brought the drill over from his old farm ready to start drilling the beans today when the Claas had finished ripping up ground at Bondip. Colin has been using the Catros and will probably finish working down the ground tomorrow and will swap for the rollers.

Simon also loaded up some seed ready to take to the first block at Knott OakB2409F60-73E6-416F-B8FA-21EB3528F2B5.thumb.jpeg.7b4cf4ad8e1063ac840dd27bb2fcc719.jpeg5F6AADCE-ACD4-4B7F-816E-C5786326F1BA.thumb.jpeg.62584c8f5f610fbd50e15c98499cb201.jpegEA98EA3C-0A66-4125-BC2F-B8A485AE3F53.thumb.jpeg.b4fd034db36c86e163f028816d7794d9.jpeg

Nice work on the Claas Alex,  Personally I would paint the top of that exhaust either metallic silver or copper paint to give it a worked appearance.  Some concrete powder is good for giving tyres and tracks a worked look as well.

The layout is looking very nice indeed😎

Just for you Phil F0479B7C-B964-4831-93C5-BF3F345ADDE9.thumb.jpeg.831a8c463eb320d85b7cc1d48184f0f8.jpeg

Finished spring drilling on Sunday which is great, everything has also been rolled and now we can get Crawford in to apply the pre emergence sprays. Whilst we have been busy out in the fields the builders have been back and finished roofing and cladding the machinery shed, now we can park some kit under cover rather than out in the elements. Just waiting on some flashing and down pipes to finish it. The next project is to tidy up the drill shed and put up the steels for the workshop and spray store which Colin and I will be helping with.8D7BF620-1577-4952-A7AF-D45ADB6B7AF1.thumb.jpeg.ffb9490644fa0b65cb23002f7d1ef82c.jpegEDD8B820-5D0B-4FB4-8EF5-D6D00CA1EDA7.thumb.jpeg.0057d8c79aa28a41f0cd0b7d018234bc.jpeg

Thursday last week the new sprayer arrive with us, Friday we had SoilEssentials down to install and setup the Trimble system on her. They are coming back down together with the guy from Amazone SW when we are ready to try it out in the field. That will probably be when we get the spray shed plumbed in9BADB2AB-3C22-454C-8554-219F867FFDAC.thumb.jpeg.857555952f300646b38eed3b4a293dd6.jpeg

Times are a changing at Oakley, Simon has realised that having a Fendt 724 in the shed as a spare tractor for grain hauling, rolling and hedge trimming is a bit of a luxury and quite over kill, so in a bid to streamline the business both 724’s are going, sold to Richard Parris, and in replacement he had two 6 month old tractors, low houred, tidy and smaller as we don’t need the power or the technology, they will be arriving in a couple of weeks. Starting to panic now if the grainstore will be ready for harvest, and looking at other storage options.

If anyone is interested in some second hand Fendt 724’s as seen in this layout, do let me know. 2 for sale

I see Parris has already sold one 724. Must have sprayed it black. From their sold tractors list, I guess your new tractors, one will be blue and white and the other yellow.

A small update, John Webb who is set to help us out at harvest with his own tractor has just taken delivery of his new one. Traded in the beloved McCormick MC135 for this Claas Arion 650, should be able to handle our trailers a bit more. John will be helping out hauling, hedge cutting and rolling. Our 2 Fendts have now gone so we are tractor-less for a week now until the replacements arrive. I think the combine is arriving early next week tooE9A672CF-8808-49EC-92F1-E165E74F6159.thumb.jpeg.8827ef8a9dd4e9c9896264df8dd35343.jpeg

First job for Friday was collecting the replacements for the two Fendt 724’s we had. Simon has bought 2 John Deeres from Parris Tractors in Taunton, both 6 months old and very low houred. A 6195R for Colin and a 6155R for Simon and myself to use.

You are lucky to have taken delivery as 4 farms this way that i now of have a new one on order for this harvest but wont have them ,2 have been loaned a older Claas to get them though not sure on other two ,Claas have been buying big second hand New Holland combines where they can to lend out to some off there customers as new ones wont be here . Manns at Saxham have been shipping parts back to Germany so they can finish a few more machines only problem with that is they wont have some parts in stock for harvest breakdowns ,could be a frustrating harvest for us all what ever colour machine we have

A combination of Brexit and Covid? Struggling to get parts to build/finish combines, and import parts as back up for over here. Luckily this one was ordered last September

Resprayed the old bailey's have we Alex.

Yes your lucky you didnt end up having to start harvest with an old New Holland😁...........Imagine a 20 year old  old Britains CX880 turning up on your Scania low loader rig ha ha.

Liking those JD convo's, were they Model farmer models?

Not resprayed no, some original Oakley trailers from back in the day, were sold and then bought back again.

I think I’d rather get a scythe out than a Newholland combine!

The John Deere’s were done by Gary Thompson, he did a fantastic job of them and as/when harvest kicks off there will be some more pics of them
