They've also bought our models to check they're doing them right! ;):)

I haven't heard back yet on the wheel colours of the Leyland but that was to the BFA Society manager. If no success I will contact the factory direct since I once "complained" before about the batteries on Golden Memories being painted gold instead of black and I actually got a call from the Quality and assurance manager thanking me for pointing this out.

Here is the response i received from BFA. I always recall leyland Wheels as being silver but I could be wrong.

Hello

I have received a reply from Border regarding this query, and they say that 'it was thoroughly researched and the wheels were in fact of a cream and

not white colour, which have been muddied slightly for authenticity.  At

no time did they encounter any in silver'.

I hope this will resolve the problem.

May

All blue Leyland tractors produced definitely had silver wheels. However, when the name changed to Marsall but early models were still the Leyland ones, the livery was changed to 'sandglow yellow' and the wheels were then white. BFA have got it wrong, like so many other 'model' manufacturers. Blinkered again and wo'nt be told.  ???

Here Here...,too right, I've NEVER seen a white-wheeled blue-era Leyland in real life or in any of the dozens of brochures I have.

Thanks for your respones Powerrabbit and Nigel. I'm no expert on the classics of the 1970's having lost interest in tractors in that period but I always thought they were silver. I'll relay this to BFA and see if I can get my Leyland 270 painted with silver wheels. I attach a 272 which is on sale in e-bay at present.

Yes I hope the manufacturers will sit up and listen. I'm sure this model will be really good as in previous ones but will be spolit if they paint them all in muddied white / cream. There are only 950 and all are hand painted in Scotland so I hope the process in not too far down the line to change.

Well this is the response from BFA

Hello

I have again passed this up to the Studio in Langholm for their comments.

The gentleman who BFA consult regarding their models Bob Copeland happens

to be at the Studios today and was given this information.  He agrees that

your information regarding the silver is correct as is the fact they were also painted cream.  The Tractor we used is actually still in use by a member of staff at Border, Registration No:  KSM 198P,  she does not believe that it had been re-painted and it is in the original colour of cream, so this was the tractor which was used for the model.

There will be no problem in changing the colour on your model to Silver if this would be preferred, you can return the model to the factory via the retailer  for this to be done.

Regards

May

I have no idea who Bob Copeland is but I have asked the society.

Keep them on their toes boys!  ;D

Well, today I looked at the February issue of 'Tractor' and looked at the ad for the Border stuff and see that the Ferguson 35 from Gray's titled 'Autumn Ploughing', (A9387) made to celebrate Massey Fergusons 50 year anniversary is advertised and with the price of ?99 with free delivery I was straight on the phone and ordered one. They will be available from February/early March.

There is a twist to that one as well since when I asked the Posthorn would they be getting it in here was the response I got.

Hi

Ross our rep from Border has just called back and said that it is only going to the Massey Fergusson Society as an anniversary presentation figurine. They were too late in telling Grays that they weren't going ahead with distribution to retailers as their advert had been sent to Tractor and Machinery back in December. They will only honour the orders they get from the advert, they will not be able to order any extra.

I have been told by Ross that if any of our customers like yourself see the ad and would like to order the Tractor, Border will honour that as well. So please let us know as soon as possible if you would like one.

Regards

Heather

Oh and I'm getting my Leyland painted with silver wheels at the BFA event at CastleDouglas in April this year and I'm told Ray Ayres will sign the base too.

PDH. Looked on an obscure site about the Border tractor studies and it had pictures of them with current valuations and the Ferguson ploughing that you pictured is said to be now worth ?2,500.

If I can find the site again I will post up the link.

Thanks Tim.  That is good news!!  I bought The Fergie a long time after it was released and had to pay a premium price to complete the set.  Even so it looks as if its appreciated further in value.  Would be great if you could post the link....would like to know what the others are potentially worth and I suspect some others would also be very interested.

Well at last I think I have got the wheel colour for my Leyland sorted out. The Posthorn are holding an open event with Ray Ayres and a painter comingto Castle Douglas on Sunday 13th April. Excellent news for me since G&M models are coming to The Isle of Skye in Perth that same week-end. My plan is to do Perth on Saturday travel down the road a bit further on the Saturday evening stop over somewhere and go to Castle Douglas on the Sunday.

That's decided for me I won't be coming to Spaling which is the week before this year. But i must do Spalding sometime.
