i have been looking at getting the imber ford 6640 SLE model myself ... the cheapest ive seen it for is £49 on ebay ... is it worth that price ?

Fantastic models the Imber 40 series Fords Derrick. I've bought all mine from the people behind Imber Models, Karen and Steve Harris at www.farmmodels.co.uk where they're priced at £45, definitely well worth the money especially with all extra front end attachments that come with them. :)

Well there is no doubt any longer, Derrick you are well and truly hooked, there is no cure, just settle back and watch your bank balance shrink whilst the collection outgrows your cabinet, room or even house :of :of

You're welcome Derrick. I'm a huge fan of the 40 series Fords too. My Uncle used to run white roofed examples of the 7740 and 8340 on his farm and i've driven a 2wd 5640, 4wd 7740 and 2wd 7840 in the past. Like many collectors and fans of Ford tractors I was left completely bewildered as to why the major toy and model manufacturers seemingly missed them and ROS certainly weren't fooling anyone when they decided to badge up a 1/25th scale Same Titan as a 40 series machine, great to see they've improved their standards recently with models such as T7070. It did at least allow talented custom builders to turn their hand at making them in 1/32nd scale, and no doubt this will continue to take place. By the same token it's great as a result of Karen and Steve's efforts and expense that as collectors we are now going to have a full range of tractors produced with all these fantastic additional extra parts that come the models.

My main reason for purchasing the 4wd 6640SL was because I'd photographed a real one at close quarters at this year's National Ploughing Championships.

How about trying a slightly more devious approach with your girl friend Derrick....such as....."If you don't buy me an Imber 6640SLE for Christmas i'm leaving you for Keira Knightly"  :D

The Blue Power T7070 is another excellent model packed with detail and again a model that in my opinion represents good value for money. The standard version cost me just over £30 which given the level of detail encompassed is very respectable.

ive already seen that once or twice ...

the bank balance looses £400 - £500 and the collection grows ... :of

well i used to own and run a ford 7840 SLE 4WD ... and i will say that after having driven most other tractors of that time ... the series 40 was the best ( dont kill me yet ) in my opinion  ;D

where do you get the ROS models from ? i think im in love with the T7070 ... * runs and hides from rampaging GF after suggesting the Keira Knightly thing and then admitting im in love with a toy *

It's certainly a favourite of mine amongst the blue machines in my collection, looking forward to Universal Hobbies realeasing their effort at miniaturising the T6090 now. :)

Mine has now begun encroach into another room in the house ( until I find another cheap cabinet ), I await my parents reaction with interest Mike. :D

more nice additions david, always nice to follow this topic

Thanks ever so much Paul, enjoyed adding to it throughout this year and delighted with my recent purchases especially the Weise MB Trac. :)

Thanks Nick. Whilst I don't plan on purchasing every SL / SLE or 2WD / 4wd variation made of the Imber 40 series Fords I would like to collect at least one example from each model number from the range when they're released. The Weise models are very impressive Nick loaded with detail you'd expect for a 1/32nd tractor in the £40 to £50 bracket, great in cab detail, realistic linkages etc. I certainly prefer the two Weise MB-tracs I have to the black Schuco example they're lined up alongside. I also have the agricultural versions of the Fendt 515C, 824 and classic 615 LSA all cracking models.

Look forward to seeing your Schuco Massey Ferguson combine, as i've mentioned before whilst I think it looks good in the "Fergy" and Fendt liveries i'm now saving up for the Challenger version so I can display it with photographs I took of the real machine last year. I've one or two other ideas for my collection but they'll have to wait for the new year and possibly the Spalding Spring Show now.

Very nice new items you have there in your collection.

Like the 825 and 133.

Texas

Thanks Bas, delighted with them. I Really like the 825, very pleasing on the eye and the 133 is a tidy little model from Universal Hobbies, although it just about drove me insane trying to remove the plastic wire tie that passed through just underneath the bonnet, i'm definitely not the patient person I thought I was. They are both now lined up alongside my UH industrial 135 and 35X tractors. :)

Collection really is growing, David both in quantity and quality. The Blue Power is a terrific looking machine but as yet it's not one I have driven. I am hoping the T7070 will becoming down the chimney for me this Christmas though. ... just need to contact Henri Walker for a T7050 decal if it does  :) :)

Thanks Tris, delighted with how each theme running through it has progressed this year and i've plenty more ideas for which direction i'd like it to take next year. I'm certainly a lot more selective now and less spontaneous in my purchases than what I used to be when I was first building up my collection and i've clearer goals as to where i'd like it head next. Gone are the days of trying to buy every Siku and Britains model just because they existed and are easily available cheaply from local stores.

Whilst i'll never disregard both these "toy" manufacturers completely when adding to themes and other criteria I tend to follow, i'm much more interested now in collecting models from the likes of Wiking, Weise, UH and the more specialised models or conversions from DBP and PDC. It's highly likely i'll start to "thin out" some of the toys in preference for detailed models, especially where duplicates begin to exist.

I've also enjoyed adding models to my collection where i've had sales literature to accompany the miniature version and/or photographed the real deal first hand.

Speaking of New Holland T7050 tractors Tris i'd absolutely love a 1/32nd scale one made up. My contracting friends with the fleet of New Holland tractors run one as their biggest tractor for high density baling, working with John Deere triple mowers and front mounted buck rake work. I'm hoping to photograph this machine in action next year. Look forward to seeing your tractor when you get sorted out with the decals :)

Really nice additions again David - did you not fancy the highway 6465 Fergie then?

Thanks Martin chuffed to bits with my recent additions just need to decide the best way to display them now. There's still a few of them sat on the living room table at the moment. :)

Truth be told i'm not the biggest fan of the highway/kommunal versions of models out there. Whilst i've considered purchasing them in the past to add to various parts of my collection other agricultural machines have always jumped in front of them on my never ending wish list. I'd certainly never say never on the 6465 as it does look like a smart model however for the time being there are other models higher on my wish list as well as more cabinet space. I'm still determined to keep as much of my collection as possible "box free." :)

David have you ever thought of putting them on a layout of some discription? i know what you mean about the space thing it certainly a thing that runs out very quickly isnt it  >:( >:(:) :) :)

I'd absolutely love to have a layout at some point in the future Nick but for the time being it will continue to remain a huge pipe dream. The reality is it won't happen under the current roof I live with my parents as there isn't suitable space to accomodate one. Secondly I still really enjoy displaying and photographing my collection in themed rows ( just tractors ) and i'm confident I can squeeze further cabinets into the space I have available here at home. That said I started a small Krone collection so I had some more implements to photograph with my tractors and i'm contemplating starting a Horsch theme too. All this will have to wait until after Christmas though now.

I'm assuming that would be these, hopefully Mike will be able to shed a little more light on them.

Without wishing to sound like a picky old scrooge they look pretty good, but at 20cm i'm after a bit more depth to the shelves. I'll probably go rummaging around the local charity shops in the new year to see what I can find but certainly won't rule out looking in places such as Ikea too. :)

I know what you mean there mate, my latest lot still has no home - still waiting to get down to buy a new cabinet  :-\

I certainly understand what you're saying about the kommunal models David - I wouldn't be the greatest fan of them all either - I just added it since we did have a normal 6465 a few years back in 2003  :)

Regards Nick

I'll add Argos to my list of places to look in the new year Nick. Plan is to look for something similar in size to my largest free standing cabinet.  :)

Mine are now safely tucked away at the expense of some more of my less detailed Siku and Britains models Martin. I've started to make use of some extra bookshelves in the spare room that were cleared by my brother of his things when he was last visiting home. I'm hoping to figure out further ways of utilising this room too, but i'm definitely in need of more substantial cabinet space.

The farm that runs the 4270 I posted previously in here also run a 6465 and part of me is tempted to request a conversion in the future to compliment the other 6100, 6200 and 6400 series models I have in my collection, we'll just have to see mate. If I was to pick a favourite Kommunal model then the Weise Fendt 824 would probably be at the top of the pile. :)

  • 1 month later...

My collecting habits have currently gone quiet as I look for another suitable cabinet and also save for the Spalding Spring Show. It's given me an opportunity to start properly cataloging my collection not only models but also the sales brochures i've accumulated over the years ( a part of my collection i'm considering paying a little more attention to in 2011.)

I thought i'd start with one of my favourite themes that covers both brochures and models, my line up of JCB Fastracs. Whilst far from complete i've enjoyed steadily adding to it over the last couple of years.

Starting with my small collection of brochures:

1100 and 2100 series.
