What is the biggest obstacle to scratch building

Would agree with all the above - time, photos/measurements, but also getting the right wheels/tyres for some odd models although this is improving.  :)

Probably also my impatience to get going and not drafting out some decent plans....... :-[

at the moment....shed with no floor

                  .....work bench/top

..... the correct tools to do the job

                  ..... synthetic rubber / resin /plastrut /spare britains parts

there is always something getting in the way time being a factor

but if i had the money to go out and kit out the shed  no problem

all i need is a blank cheque and 12 days  ;D ;D ;D

Finding suitable donor parts at a reasonable price to make the end product viable, especially if keeping it. Room on the table to do it, using the kitchen table is a little unpractical as some things in the construction process have to be left to 'set'. I say this from the point of veiw of someone who prefers to when possible build something of an earlier era.

The biggest problems i find are time and living in canada the cost and availability of parts and donor units. Most of this has to come from The UK unless i get lucky on U.S Ebay as exchange rates kill it.Repro  cabs average $20 and a ford tw 20 could cost $40 plus any parts making the average crap conversion cost over $100 to do.Basically I can forget PMA hitches and that cool stuff. I got a lot of scale down wheels cheap off a member on here I got a deal I am not complaining it cost $340 by the time i got them.see what I mean.

For me it is definately time that causes the problem.

Wife and young son to spend time with, large garden to look after, work and helping out friends & family in need :P . Sometimes just getting a few minutes here and there for modeling actually helps, as it stops me rushing the job :D

For me would that be:

Finding the right rims

Finding Time (every body got that problem i think)

Some times the right photo´s

The mesurements

Some time i don´t feel like building that would also be a problem i think! ???::)

And many more reasons for me that i can mention! ;)

thats true aswell the right centres in rims is quite hard to find especially some masseys and 2 wd front axles and 4wd axles with out the need to scrap a whole tractor for tyres and the front axle especially with some models being just too expensive to scrap for them now even if their tyres match very closely with the one yours looking for and all the tyres seem to oversized tyres when in reality most medium hp tractors run on narrower tyres and bigger tractors on narrow tyres is a bit silly thats what ive found but i guess it makes the models more impressive but for accuracy theyre out the window

For me.............

As I used to spend nearly every night in the garage building, creating, painting, spraying etc etc...

After moving to Germany and not having a settled "home" that i can call my own....

That and also discovering a new social life here in Germany I just don't have time... also that I am enjoying more "socialising"...

And, another comment I am suprised no one has said is that now there are SO many custom builders, it is easier to find someone else to build it....

If I think back to my days on the carpet trying to earn a living from my parents rooms I had to use wire, screws, thick wood for buildings etc etc....

Now with all the Brusshwood buildings, Model Supplies etc it is easy to find someone else to make you what you want...

AND finally.....

All the manufacturers now making more detailed models.... I hd the choice of one plough when i was younger and when the John Deere 6410 was released by Ertl it was a HUGE deal!

Now there are new tractors each month....
