Fantastic, good luck to the fellow.

I hope he is a member on here as I'd like to see more of his collection especially his consumer and trade catalogues, posters etc, basically his POS stuff.

Are dual grey wheeled MF 2680's hard to find?

Not a bit Paul and I'm delighted for him.Only reason that I wish he was on here is that we might get to see more of his collection.

Good luck to him. But 1000 britains models worth 50k? He must have some rare ones. There is bigger value collections out there I am sure, my money would be on Charlie, aka watermill on the forum, he has got a massive collection, ask bazzaaa, he has seen it.

Sorry Brian (mr softie) I am sure you are right behind him

Well I've seen or know of 20 collections bigger than that.

Mr Ford has way more than that...and even yours truly has one or two.....but Mr Charlie Austin well he blows all collections out of the water

Drew is aware of bigger collections too so seems a little odd really

But hey fair play to that man as if you don't enter you don't win

He must have been about the only one to enter, his collection according to the report includes all his Britains models, tractors, implements, figures and animals, I've lost count of all the Britains models I have but I'm pretty close to that amount, if not a fair bit more, I'm sure there are collectors even locally that can top that quite comfortably. As for the value, that is probably the insurance figure and to realise the true value he would have to sell it all and even then it's only worth what someone is prepared to pay. Most of us collectors I think would shy away from publicising our collections, most that I know pretty much keep it to themselves and not wish to brag about it and draw attention to themselves in any way other than in their own circle of fellow collectors and friends, as we are on here, we share amongst ourselves and not every Tom, **** and Harry.

I think you make a very good point Tim, in that most like to keep relatively quiet about their collections - I am one of them.  I have a small (350ish piece) collection which I am adding to frequently, but choose not to publicise it, even on here (or have I just done that.......).  I think it is fair to value stuff at NRV (New Replacement Value) or SHRV (Second Hand RV) because those are the readies needed to replace.....  Often Insurance values are inflated as you say.  I raise or lower my values based on Fleabay sold values.

I always have the conversation with my insurance rep over values of model collections, I ask the question 'how can you value an item for it's replacement when there is no replacement available?, some items in my collection, and I'm sure also in most others collections also that we have are irreplaceable, you can never put a price on something like that, of course, there's always something that comes along and pops out of the woodwork from time to time but if it were the particular piece you were looking for what price would you have to go to in order to secure ownership, say for arguments sake, you saw it listed on a specialist auction, you are probably in competition with several other bidders, you secure it, pay a buyers premium plus VAT, you've travelled to the saleroom or spent time sitting at your computer 'live' bidding, win it from there, pay the premiums plus post and packing cost and most likely the insurance as well, so the end cost for this 'replacement' could be quite a bit more than your insurance actually covers it for.

Nice to see other people's collections, but does he REALLY enjoy it all? I find that the more you get, the more gets stored away in boxes and the less it all gets enjoyed. I had my whole collection, (only a couple of hundred items), boxed up until last year, when I finally got my display room sorted and I have to say that I now REALLY enjoy it all and can actually see what I've got and even PLAY with some of it at times... I even find that I buy less, as I am now able to theme my displays and tailor my buying to suit, so a win all round, really! As always, it's horses for courses and whatever floats your particular boat. If I had the space and money, I'd probably go totally berserk! :-)
