Notice the "FORD official licenced product" sign on the picture, who gives this out now......is it CNH or Ford (as in the car manufacturers)

Who would give out the County licence for the County models to be made?

I presume you have to have a licence to produce a model!?

If anyone (either an individual or a manufacturing company) wants to produce a model of anything to sell for profit, they will need a licence from the holder of the Intellectual Property Rights to that machine (usually the original manufacturer), and will most likely have to pay some form of royalty to obtain it. In some cases there may no longer be a registered holder of the rights, but even then there is likely to be a company name or logo which is still registered and will require a licence.

Ford tractors are a case in point - I am pretty sure the design rights/IP for the tractors themselves will have passed to New Holland, and a licence would have to be obtained from CNH if the IP is still registered. The Ford name and Ford oval badge would have to be licensed seperately from Ford Motor Company, and they may well be specific as to what exact model it can be used on.

As Mark Osborne now owns County Commercial Cars, I would expect he would be responsible for issuing licences for models of County variants of Ford (or other OEM ;) ) tractors.?

There have been a few attempts in recent years by some toy/model manufacturers to try to get away without getting a licence, and they have usually been caught out and either asked to cease and desist, or have been landed with a large bill for royalties that they hadn't bargained on!

i like the look of prototype county

Apart from the ridiculously oversized tyres ::) . I know the UH ones appear a bit undersized to some, but in reality, tyres that size would rarely have been fitted to the 1884 when new (except for a very small number of specialist applications).

Those supplied to agriculture in Europe would normally have been fitted with 18.4 x 38:-

People are always complaining the tyres are to small and sticking larger ones on. Now they are big it still isn't good enough! ;D

got to say, if that had more normal chunky tyres on it i would buy it ,with those floats it just makes a very well made model look ridiculous and over the top, i know many moan about big boots on models, and in some case they are justifyed, others not, but thats gone beyond what most prople ask for sadly, rest of the model looks great mind

Have to agree about the county but the TW prototype looks so much better than the UH version. The tyres and wheels are spot on the cab and mudguards are correct and the only gaffe I can see is the pre cleaner design behind the exhaust which was not the same glass type one seen on most ford 10 series bonnets, it was plane old solid black not glass tut tut! Other than that its superb and it looks like a gen 1 version is in the offing as well ^-^

I guess Marge and UH might claim they are going for different markets on the basis or price, availability and fine detail. Maybe in years to come the UH won't be worth much more but the Marge ones will?

Ohh Marges will be worth more ,no dought about that. Its just we seem to be getting much the same models from both UH & Marge within months of each other.

Don't want to rain on your parade Sean,but those boots on that model will sell it for Marge,the European guy's will just lap that up,I myself had no intentions of buying another County,but I really like the look of that,with the Ros Bredal 165 spreader on the back,should look very nice,although I suspect that spreader will be to big for it :-

Seconded Joe a miniature version of the Benson red 1184-TW would be very much appreciated. Given that unless I win the lottery it's highly unlikely i'll ever be in a position to own a real one, especially as the hammer dropped on that one at £47k. :of

How do you work that out? Frankly they make it look awful; totally spoils an otherwise promising model.

(oh, and the last time I looked, the English, Scots, Welsh and Irish are also Europeans ;) )

Well Clive whilst I spend a lot of time on FTF,I also spend slightly longer on Gross Tracteur Passion,and one of the things you notice on there is,they really like their big boots,if Atte had posted the prototype picture of the Marge 1884,earlier I would never have bought the Universal hobbies version,purely because I happen to prefer the look of the fatter tyres,and as for Europe,it's some place on the other side of the North Sea as far as I am personally concerened,

I also look at GTP a fair bit; all I see is certain number of folk who seem to have some kind of rubber fetish when it comes to tractor tyres ;) It doesn't make it right, and it certainly doesn't make it correct for the County - turning circle was pretty vast even on the 18.4's set at 80" track. Trying to turn with those floats on must be near impossible.

It puts me in mind of a farmer I once worked for who sent a chap 10 miles away to his other farm with a 3 furrow to plough a 1 acre patch for some new strawberries to be planted; the driver moaned "why can't they do it with their own plough" (a County 1474 and 6 furrow semi-mounted Dowdeswell)..... "Because there's only an acre, and the County needs an acre and a half to turn round on!" was the reply.
