Progress made this week. I bought the first of three mdf boards to build on and worked on the company entrance sign. I also continued the first shed build.

The logo is a modified sign I found via Google. I modified it using the computer and built a frame from balsa wood. The signs designed to fit in a hedge row, so I've added what will be hidden spikes to the legs.

The shed has been simple to build so far. I've decided to run cladding down the full length of the sides (work in progress):

Thanks Wayne. I'm really enjoyed making the sign

The yard, well one third of it, took shape this weekend. I laid the gravel and road, which needs a little touching up with glue, but it's looking good.

The piece of roofing is just there to keep the hedge upright since its not yet fixed down

I still need to build the security fencing, entrance gate and the yard itself, but I think its turning out nicely. We've had an unexpected decrease in income such is life, so I'll be trying my hand at building more and more from scratch as we go on

Time for an update. Firstly I have continued the shed build

I decided to shorten the length of the cladding in the mid sections

IMG_20160305_134748_zpsjcr42pio.jpg

I then started the roofing

IMG_20160305_154901_zpsyjsmruwq.jpg

I'm a little further ahead on the shed then the photos show. The roofing is still at the same stage, however I have painted the inside wall sections. This just needs the roof completed and I'll be happy with it as an open shed.

Next I have worked on the yard security fence. This comprises of concrete (wooden) uprights and real metal mesh and metal 'barbed' wire

First photos show preparation of the uprights

Next photos jump straight to the near complete fences

Second part of today's update... took a little longer to post this due to photo issues

You can see from my last post that the entrance area isn't complete but I have been working away at it and its been the most fun of the whole build so far. I chose to have a 30ft entrance with two 15ft security gates that can open and close. I have been building the gates from scratch based on a modern palisade security fence. Once the gates have been fitted to some pillars I'll join up the main security fence to complete the entrance.

The security gates

The paint is not quite finished and I haven't sat them straight in these photos, but you get the idea of how they'll look when complete and installed.

Very nice Luke, fence posts look good, are they laser cut ones ??

Thanks Sean. Yes they are laser cut to 6 inches tall, which is obviously far too tall for 1/32, but it allowed me room to cut them down by hand to the right hight once I had placed a few on the board

Its been a quiet few months on the layout but I'm slowly getting back into the swing of things

I haven't worked on the layout board itself since I last updated this thread; however I recently bought some materials to continue constructing the barn roof. Sadly I damaged the security fence when I packed it away earlier this year, so I need to work on that too

Regarding the fleet, we've made a few recent purchases including a fully mounted pneumatic Horsch Express drill, with a 3 meter working width. The model is made by Ros and is well built with a decent level of detail. This is the first time I've owned a fully mounted drill since the green Britains pneumatic drill as a child. I must say it does look the part. Perhaps a little small for some operations, but it works well for us as, we will be operating a second drill as well. I haven't removed it from the box yet, but I will say that I am a little disappointed that the hopper cover does not open, something you would expect from a £40 model

We also purchased a set of Razol Toro cambridge rolls, with a working width of 8.2 meters. I prefer to buy from well known manufacturers, but this set was a good price and will offer our customers a further option for cultivation. The model is made by Replicagri and I understand that delivery is expected next week

I planned to purchase a Kverneland plough but after visiting LAMMA '16 we settled on an Amazone Cayron 6f instead. Again delivery is expected next week and I fully expect Universal Hobbies to deliver on detail. If Amazone delivers on quality, we may consider a set of discs too

Finally I purchased a Britains New Holland BB1290. As it's a Britains I knew I would need to add a little more detail, which I set about doing this morning. So far I've added warning stickers and lights, hydraulic hoses and hose guard, and a little metallic paint for roller wear. I also removed a gear on the pickup so that the pickup does not rotate when the model is moved. I hope to finish it off with a better warning beacon:

As my layout board isn't up, I decided to see how the silage fleet currently looks... first carpet farming in 20 years!! ;D

Future purchases are being considered, starting with two New Holland T6's to power the Claas rake and pull a classic Kane trailer among other things.

We also need a 300+ hp tractor to work the rake on the clamp and do other demanding tasks throughout the year - since we sold the Claas Axion. At the moment its looking like we'll buy a T7.315

We're undecided on a round baler and bale wrappers. I was surprised to learn that there aren't any square bale wrappers in 1/32.

We are also looking at purchasing a combine harvester, but until a decent mid size model is available in yellow, we'll leave it for now.

One of our mechanics is currently welding a front mounted balewrap holder, photos to follow when complete

That's all for now

Like that fleet .. Again coming from another true blue fanatic . If you can't get a wrapper for the squares ... may aswell keep the square baler for the straw & get a McHale Fusion for the silage bales.. All the same ... A very nice fleet of machinery ..

Thanks guys. The T7.225 is a very tidy model. Hopefully we'll see a LWB T7 from Ros in the not so distant future

I would love a McHale 998 wrapper, but I guess I will settle for straw bales only for squares and look at round bale options

The Fusion is really expensive, so not too sure about that. I'm considering a Claas Uniwrap or round baler and separate round bale wrapper

  • 1 month later...

Still not much progress made on the layout I'm afraid, but I have a small holiday coming up with time set aside to finish the barn and work on other parts

Business has been going well and our customer base is building on word of mouth and quality of service as we pride ourselves on giving a good finished product as well as hiring careful drivers, which means our kit is kept in top condition and road/yard safety is maintained

We have been busy with our accountant and business adviser considering where to expand. The option of a baler/wrapper combination machine or seperate baler/wrapper has been discussed and since our baling part of the business is new, we have decided to run a seperate round baler and wrapper to give us flexibility. With that in mind, we have placed an order for a Kuhn wrapper and are still in the market for a round baler (Toytrac perhaps!)

I have also been busy welding up a front mounted balewrap carrier, which is still under contruction..

Balewrap boxes still to be finished and added to some sections

I have also got to work on the T7 225 and replaced the front linkage with a weight frame

We also have a T7 190 and T6 180 due to join the fleet, hopefully in time for the maze harvest

I've already posted this in the Britians section, but we also bought a T7 315 hd, which effectivly replaces the Claas Axion 950 sold earlier this year, to act mainly as the buckraking and heavy draft tractor. Its got new beacons, a siku front linkage and modified weight to fit the siku linkage. I'm still undecided on whether it will have a place in the fleet, as I plan to buy the MarGe version, which I'm sure will be better detailed

Good job on the front weights for the T7.225, funny it's something I have looked into doing, but then got distracted and ended up buying some new Claas models. But I think I do the same at some point.
