New Holland Clayson 1530

Recommended Posts

After finishing the 8070 I wanted to do an older New Holland similar to one i remember from years ago. As a boy i spent many hours leading off from this particular combine as well as riding on the drivers platform in between full loads. However, i cant remember if it was an M133 or a 1530, so this one will be based on an early 1530 which looked very similar to the 133. Initially I thought the body would be straightforward due to its boxy nature, but it is actually a more complex shape than it first appears! Anyway, a couple of pictures of the early stages

Looks like its going to be another fine model ,i had a 1545 which we bought back in 1978 ,it was 2 years old at the time ,i then drove it for 27 seasons ,allow we owned it for 28 years ,i sold it on the 20th July 2006 the same day as i bought my TX34 that i still use

A big lesson learnt on this build! My usual way of working is to spend a good deal of time working out measurements and drawing out plans so that i make all my mistakes on paper before i start. However, i must admit that i did skimp on that part on this build for the first time as i was unable to get an accurate measurement for the width of the combine, so i made a guestimate of the width. However, the more i looked at the build the more wrong it looked, so after a bit of digging i managed to come to the conclusion that the build was over 1cm too wide, equating to about a foot out on the real thing. I knew I'd never be happy with it, so a bit of drastic surgery was needed. I initially tried to split the frame and remove the excess width, but this proved much harder than i had hoped, the end result being a rebuild of a big part of it. Lesson learnt....don't skimp on the research!

Thanks Smithy! I don't know what it is, but I've always had a soft spot for these older New Holland combines

I’m not sure I could ever use that as an excuse to not do my models, it’s not like it takes long, unless I take my socks off I suppose, that adds a bit of time ;)
