Wowowowow I needed this to inspire me...

I d like to start with the big house and then do the rest...

So you do the frame of wood and then glue the painted cardboard on it to give the desire wall effect is that right?

No not really no cardboard used. On the sheds I've scrapped the house now as It was a little out of proportion and couldn't fit if all on the display. So the byre is 6mm ply just what I've been using to board the roof out in my attick it's just the off cuts. Get the ply to size and do all the cuts first then glue them all together to get the frame. Then I added the roof timbers and treated them with wood stain. For the stone wall affect I used gray tile grouting it's the flexible stuff. I just covered the walls and left it over night. Next day I just marked out the coin stones and then scribed the stone walls courses.. if you need any more info I'll be happy to help.

Another shed started on Greenside. Got the doorways window and size of the  shed sorted. This yard that sits just above the big cow shed, its used for new born calfs for a few weeks then hopefully turn them out onto the front fields. But the last two winters my brother has been keeping the Longhorns in there to house them over winter. Just gives then the run of the sheds and yard. With a ring feeder just behind the wall. Itll be almost the same as the byre that I've done with stone work and doors. Just different inside. 20200724_211908.thumb.jpg.72efd74e45a45bc3e5623f27db20bc38.jpg20200724_211904.thumb.jpg.bfa6ff801b20fba45bcadb840fa5489c.jpg

  • 2 weeks later...

Got a start on the stonewalls lastnight, had to stop as my finger was staring to go numb. Seems a little lighter this one used the same grouting. Hopefully get the stonewalls finished tonight then I can start on the wood work. Had a quick mockup of a old hay rack I'll see what it looks like when sprayed up and rust added. 20200802_220402.thumb.jpg.3936d79a3d693552962bc3c3f7f6caec.jpg20200802_220357.thumb.jpg.107aaf4207249727dac882369f756693.jpg20200802_222223.thumb.jpg.71c152718071fe75fd63499e3162e9aa.jpg20200802_222232.thumb.jpg.2e59369ccbaeaf0a66dc1a51662901ea.jpg20200802_224013.thumb.jpg.8408d710c76f65e1acd7ef12e6865fba.jpg20200802_224040.thumb.jpg.3163172acf51ed7d351d3d98e2dbb61d.jpg20200802_224022.thumb.jpg.b0cf9e3be133f33c5045bfe7a186b223.jpg

Are u  using balsa for doors n frames.

Its along those lines it's just cls 4x2 timbers that I've cut in the garage on the bid saw I cut loada of different sizes. Little bit fiddly with a big saw but its cost nothing as its scrap wood that's left over.

Very little to update on Greenside. Finding it hard to get time in the loft. I got a quick hour the other night so got the shed doors finished off painted and latches on and painted. I'll start the roof timbers next. 20200813_225423.thumb.jpg.3e4b439f8edd5c538530fba064eda89f.jpg20200813_225431.thumb.jpg.4cd3792c3d8def946cda1aae4e568c3f.jpg20200813_225440.thumb.jpg.7fc66198d48f68810ed4821968727927.jpg20200813_225436.thumb.jpg.6e28f820919414b17bcc69fc07f05769.jpg20200813_232112.thumb.jpg.bf940b67efcac0213da9c6e2454a351e.jpg20200813_232104.thumb.jpg.e143262082f70eef344bf1e4d6c41055.jpg20200813_232448.thumb.jpg.1bc69293984cb9779fc211f002e6980a.jpg

Good to see your still getting a bit of progress Lee, i know your mind will be else where with your lad an trying to get him sorted, but getting on the farm for an hour or so will give you a distraction and keep you sane ;)

Thanks mate yeah its stopping me going insane. Had the long journey down to Heathrow today as my boy got the all clear to fly to Singapore for the medical treatment he needs but only mam and Stanley can go for now me and my 4year old daughter will have to wait not sure how long of a wait. Find my self doing different little bits and plodding on with it.

Coming together nicely Lee, loving the little details like the strip lights and latches.

Thanks made would be nice if they worked but that'll do for details for now. I'm pleased with how it's going for now.

Your layout is looking great Lee. I like the little details you are adding to the byres like the blocked up windows. Would it be easier on your hands to scribe the stonework while the grout is still slightly soft, although you might not get such a clean cut.
